Background: The role of a prothrombotic state in atrial fibrillation (AF) progression to permanent arrythmia (PerAF) is unclear. Formation of denser and poorly lysable fibrin clots has been observed in AF patients also with sinus rhythm in association with higher stroke risk. We investigated whether altered fibrin clot properties and other prothrombotic state markers may contribute to AF transition to PerAF.

Acquired factor XIII (FXIII) deficiency is a rare disorder that could be associated with autoimmune and malignant disorders with a high risk of bleeding. In acute leukemias, acquired FXIII deficiency has been reported and replacement of FXIII helped to control significant bleeding. Here, we report four cases of myeloid neoplasms to have acquired FXIII deficiency with interesting concomitant RUNX1 mutation in the molecular background of two patients.

Background: Haemorrhage is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in trauma, and prehospital transfusion of blood products is often necessary. Whole blood has been proposed to be the best alternative, but it is unclear whether, and how, storage and transport of the blood in a helicopter affects the blood units. We investigated the coagulation capacity and platelet function in whole blood at different time points during helicopter missions.

Background: Platelet adhesion to collagen, a critical initial step in thrombus formation, remains an underexplored therapeutic target in thrombosis. Current disease treatment strategies primarily focus on platelet activation and aggregation, often overlooking the crucial initial adhesion phase. Reynoutria japonica (Huzhang, HZ), utilized in traditional Chinese medicine to enhance blood circulation and resolve blood stasis, lacks comprehensive insights into its active components and their anti-thrombotic mechanisms.

Objectives: To study the significance of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25-(OH)D] level in the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of children with immunoglobulin A vasculitis nephritis (IgAVN).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of children with IgAVN who underwent renal biopsy at Suzhou Hospital Affiliated to Anhui Medical University and Jinling Hospital of the Medical School of Nanjing University from June 2015 to June 2020. Based on serum 25-(OH)D level, the patients were divided into a normal group and a lower group.
