Although the initial treatment of choice in calcium antagonist poisoning is calcium, there has been controversy over the optimal regime of its administration. The administration of prolonged or regular, high doses of calcium has been suggested. We report a fatal case of verapamil overdosage which did not respond to intensive therapy and very high doses of intravenous calcium, despite achieving extremely high serum calcium levels.
