Published: September 1996

This report describes simple modifications to a stereotaxic instrument that allow for the administration of an inhalant anaesthetic and provide improved access to avian dorsal forebrain structures along with a more natural orientation for small birds during neurosurgery.

Background And Objectives: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a well-established intervention for alleviating both motor and nonmotor symptoms of Parkinson disease. However, a common complication of stereotaxic DBS surgery is pneumocephalus, which can compromise electrode accuracy, complicate postoperative assessments, and negatively affect the long-term outcomes of DBS surgery. This report proposes a comprehensive and robust set of recommendations aimed at optimizing DBS surgical protocols to achieve zero pneumocephalus outcomes.

Background: The rapid and accurate acquisition of prostate cancer pathological tissue is critical to prostate cancer research but has traditionally proven challenging. However, the gradual application of three-dimensional (3D) modeling in medical practice has overcome many of the related limitations. This cohort study aimed to compare the difference between a 3D stereotaxic sampling method and traditional cognitive sampling method to clarify the factors affecting sampling.

To evaluate the efficacy of neuronavigation-assisted stereotactic drilling drainage compared with that of craniotomy in the treatment of massive intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) in elderly patients. This was a randomized, controlled, blind endpoint clinical study. Elderly patients with massive ICH treated at our neurosurgery department, without the formation of brain herniation preoperatively, all underwent neurosurgical intervention.

In this study, we develop and validate a new Parkinson's disease (PD) mouse model that can be used to better understand how the disease progresses and to test the effects of new, potentially disease-modifying, PD therapies. Our central hypothesis is that mitochondrial dysfunction intercalates with misfolded α-synuclein (α-syn) accumulation in a vicious cycle, leading to the loss of nigral neurons. Our hypothesis builds on the concept that PD involves multiple molecular insults, including mitochondrial dysfunction and aberrant α-syn handling.

Objectives: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that results in the gradual breakdown of brain tissue, causing the deterioration of intellectual function and ability. Crocin is a saffron carotenoid compound proven to have excellent neuroprotective and anti-inflammation properties, although it has some limitations such as low stability and bioavailability. Therefore, in the current research, we tried to improve these limitations by using nanotechnology and chitosan as the carrier.
