Stereological studies were performed on 27 pairs of adrenal glands of human fetuses (9-38 weeks of intra-uterine development). Medullary chromaffin cells were identified by immunostaining for chromogranin-A. The volume of adrenal medulla, average cell volume, and the number of chromaffin cells were calculated. The volume of adrenal medulla increased slowly up to the 20th week and afterwards it enlarged rapidly to the 31 st week of the fetal period. A gradual, linear increase in the number of chromaffin cells of developing adrenal medulla was observed during the studied period. On the contrary, the average volume of the adrenal medullary cells remained quite constant until the 17th week of the development. Afterwards, a gradual, linear increase in the cell volume was observed until the 31 st week, reaching a plateau by the end of intra-uterine development.

Hypoxia at high altitude can constrain aerobic metabolism and elicit physiological responses that are detrimental to health and fitness. Responses of the sympathoadrenal system are vital for coping with acute hypoxia, but can become maladaptive with prolonged activation in chronic hypoxia. We examined how adrenal function is altered in high-altitude populations of deer mice (), which have evolved to overcome chronic hypoxia in their native environment.

The present study investigated the role of the neurotensin/NTS in the modulation of the lipopolysaccharide/LPS induced dysfunction of the sympatho-adrenal-medullary system/SAM using both the NTS receptor 1/NTSR agonist PD149163/PD and antagonist SR48692 /SR. Forty eight mice were maintained in eight groups; Group I/control, Groups II, III, IV, and VII received LPS for 5 days further Group III/IV/VII received PD low dose/PD, PD high dose /PD and SR for 28 days respectively. Group V/VI received similar only PD and PD dose respectively whereas Group VIII was exposed to only SR for 28 days.

Incidental adrenal masses are frequently detected due to the extensive use of cross-sectional imaging, with about 3% to 7% of adults estimated to have them. Paragangliomas and pheochromocytomas (PPGL), rare tumors originating from paraganglia tissues, including the adrenal medulla, continue to be imaging mimics, necessitating a multimodal approach for accurate diagnosis. We report a case of 72-years male presenting with intermittent pain abdomen for the past 1 year.

Beta - stimulant, that is, β - adrenergic stimulant, also known as β - agonists, is bioactive catecholamine compounds naturally produced in animals' adrenal medulla glands that induce relaxation in asthmatic airway smooth muscles upon inhalation while also temporarily boosting athletic alertness and alleviating fatigue. However, their potential for dependency poses health risks including unnoticed exacerbation leading to severe illness or fatality prompting their inclusion on WADA's prohibited substances list. Surface - enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) offers a rapid, sensitive, and label - free means for identifying characteristic peaks associated with β - agonist compounds.

Whilst the world sees the tremendous growth of mobile phone technology, radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) induced possible health effects have emerged as a topic of recent day debate. The current study is designed to test the hypothesis that chronic 900 MHz radiation exposure would potentially dysregulate the stress response system (HPA axis) in vivo, via, its non-thermal mechanisms, leading to alterations in the microarchitecture of the adrenal gland, vulnerable brain regions such as the hippocampus which may results in altered behaviours in rats. Male albino Wistar rats aged four weeks, weighing 50-60 g were subjected to 900 MHz radiation from a mobile phone for four weeks at a rate of one hour per day.
