Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic biliary inflammation associated with periductular fibrosis of the intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts leading to strictures, bacterial cholangitis, decompensated liver disease and need for liver transplantation. This rare focal liver disease affects all races and ages, with a predominance of young males. There is an up to 88% association with inflammatory bowel disease.

To explore the impact of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and clinical outcomes in patients with autoimmune liver disease (AILD). Patients diagnosed with AILD were enrolled and divided into a UDCA group and a non-UDCA group based on whether they received UDCA treatment. Relevant data were collected regarding AILD diagnosis, treatment, biochemical indicators, and imaging examination.

Background And Aims: The diagnostic value of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC)-specific antibodies in patients with elevated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels, and other identifiable causes, was unclear. Our study aimed to determine whether etiological treatments in PBC-specific antibody-positive patients could improve liver biochemical tests, thereby distinguishing them from individuals with PBC.
Methods: We enrolled patients who were positive for PBC-specific antibodies and elevated ALP and/or GGT levels but with other identifiable etiologies.

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a liver disease that manifests predominantly in the later stages of pregnancy. The primary treatment currently involves the use of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). In this study, the therapeutic effectiveness of 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA) in the treatment of ICP, as well as the potential mechanisms involved, are investigated to offer new references for clinical treatment decisions using ICP model.
