Cholera is a topical infection of the intestinal tract and rarely causes extraintestinal disease. The gallbladder has been proposed to be the reservoir of this organism. We present a patient from Bolivia who developed symptoms of acute cholecystitis and whose bile culture grew Vibrio cholerae 01 El tor.

Zambia experienced the largest cholera epidemic in the country's history in 2023-2024; however, the antimicrobial susceptibility profile of Vibrio cholerae during the epidemic is unknown. A total of 2,384 stool samples were collected from suspected cholera cases in Eastern, Lusaka, and Luapula provinces in Zambia from January 2023 to March 2024. Among them, 549 (23.

We observed that an exonuclease VII ( ) mutant of failed to grow on TCBS agar, suggesting that DNA repair mutant strains may be hampered for growth in this selective media. Examination of the selective components of TCBS revealed that bile acids were primarily responsible for toxicity of the mutant.

One family of defense systems found widely across bacteria are OLD (for overcoming lysogeny defect) family nucleases. Despite recent discoveries regarding Class 2 and 4 OLD family nucleases and how phages overcome them, Class 1 OLD family nucleases warrant further study as there has only been one anti-phage Class 1 OLD family nuclease described to date.

Chemical synthesis of the trisaccharide repeating unit of the -antigen from has been accomplished through a linear strategy. The reducing end 1,2- mannosamine unit has been achieved through the azide inversion of the 2-OH position of a suitably protected glucose moiety. The crucial ()-3-hydroxybutyric acid is inserted successfully at the last stage through EDC-HOBt coupling.

The vast majority of pathogen phylogenetic studies do not consider the possibility of multiple merger events being present, where a single node of the tree leads to more than two descendent branches. These events are however likely to occur when studying a relatively small population or if there is high variability in the reproductive chances. Here we consider the problem of detecting the presence of multiple mergers in the context of dating a phylogeny, that is determining the date of each of the nodes.
