Endothelins (ET) are the most important vasoconstrictors known, and administration results in contraction of vascular strips in man and experimental animals in vitro. We examined the effects of ET-1 on thrombus formation in rabbits. We used vasoconstrictor and thrombus forming agents and we selected an animal model, the vena jugularis thrombus model. In addition, intravascular endothelium was examined ultrastructurally. The ET-1 level is known to be high in patients with hypertension; if these patients also have atherosclerosis, then intravascular thrombus formation may increase. In the vena jugularis thrombus model, thromboplastin and ET-1 act synergistically to increase intravascular thrombus formation. On injection of ET-1 dose dependent vasoconstriction was shown in the vessel wall. Although similar maximal contraction is achieved, a decrease in vessel diameter is associated with increased potency of ET-1 and thromboplastin. The results suggest that ET-1 may regulate vascular tone through constriction of vessels.

For operant self-administration, permanent intravenous cannulas need to remain open and operational for months without infections or blockages. Here, we report retrospectively on our experiences and observations using different access systems during three studies. We identified a refined method for vena jugularis cannulation that is a vast improvement for the animals, biotechnicians and researchers.

Background: There is a lack of data on the validation and diagnostic performance of the Freestyle Optium Neo-H (Freestyle) and Centrivet GK (Centrivet) devices for the diagnosis of hypoglycaemia, hyperglycaemia and hyperketonaemia in goats.
Objectives: The aim of the present study was to validate the Freestyle and Centrivet for the analysis of whole blood beta-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) and to validate the Freestyle for the analysis of whole blood glucose concentrations using the reference method (RM) in goat blood collected from the jugular and ear veins.
Methods: Venous blood samples were utilised to assess glucose and BHBA concentrations using the Freestyle, Centrivet and RM.

This work aims to: (1) elucidate the immune response exhibited by CD4 + and CD8 + T lymphocyte cells in response to various infectious agents in calves suffering with neonatal diarrhea; and (2) determine and investigate the association between serum selenium levels and T lymphocyte subtypes in neonatal calves afflicted with neonatal diarrhea and infected with various infectious agents. The study encompassed a cohort of 50 calves, encompassing both sexes and various breeds, within the neonatal age range (1-28 days old). Subdivided into distinct groups, the calves were categorized based on the causative agents of neonatal diarrhea, including Rotavirus (n = 10), Cryptosporidium parvum (C.

Objective: Hematological studies were carried out in cattle with tongue-rolling hyperactivity in order to establish the etiopathogenetic mechanisms of this behavioral disorder.
Materials And Methods: Cattle were divided into two groups: Group 1 ( 12), control animals that did not demonstrate the tongue-rolling orosthenic activity, and Group 2 ( 12), cattle that manifested this stereotyped behavior. Blood samples were collected from all cattle twice at 10-day intervals from for analysis of red blood cell counts, hemoglobin (HGB) content, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular HGB (MCH), mean corpuscular HGB concentration (MCHC), hematocrit (HCT), white blood cell counts (WBC), and differential white cell counts [lymphocytes (LYM), monocytes (MON), and granulocytes (GRAs)].

is a tick-borne obligated intraerythrocytic bacterium that infects domestic sheep, goats, and wild ruminants. Recently, several studies have been carried out using and genes to identify the genetic diversity of . Instead of these genes, which are known to be highly stable among heterologous strains, , which is accepted as a stable molecular marker to classify strains, was used in genetic diversity studies.
