Distance-Based Fluorescent Immunosensor for Point-of-Care Test of Illegal Additives through the Gas-Producing Nanozyme.

Anal Chem

November 2024

Key Laboratory for Biobased Materials and Energy of Ministry of Education, College of Materials and Energy, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642, China.

The colorimetric point-of-care test (POCT) offers a rapid and efficient method for detecting specific targets in real samples. However, traditional colorimetric methods often rely on complex signal amplification techniques or electronic devices to enhance detection sensitivity, which can inadvertently increase both cost and time, thus contradicting the fundamental goals of visual detection methods. Here, we presented a distance-based fluorescent immunosensor that utilized a gas-producing nanozyme for continuous gas production reaction as a signal.

In contrast to natural enzymes, nanozymes show promising advantages of low cost and high stability for analytical applications. The simple mix of L-phenylalanine (F) and Cu produces two-dimensional nanosheets of a coordination polymer with a high surface area ratio and rich exposed active sites as a novel catalyst. As the mimetic of natural laccase, this nanozyme (F-Cu) can catalyze the oxidative coupling reaction of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DP) and 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AP) to produce a distinct red product, thus establishing an intuitive and simple method for the detection of thiram.

Article Synopsis
  • - Dipyrone, a strong pain reliever and fever reducer, is still used in many countries despite being banned in some due to serious side effects, and its effectiveness in treating fevers in children compared to ibuprofen is unclear.
  • - The research examined existing studies comparing oral dipyrone and ibuprofen for managing fever in children, using various medical databases to find relevant randomized controlled trials.
  • - The results indicated that there was no significant difference in the effectiveness of dipyrone and ibuprofen for reducing fever in children, showing both medications work similarly in this context.

Individual use of self-medication and other remedies in COVID-19 outpatients in Western-Pomerania.

Sci Rep

September 2024

Clinical Pharmacology, Institute of Pharmacology, Center of Drug Absorption and Transport (C_DAT), University Medicine Greifswald, Greifswald, Germany.

We analyzed data from positively tested COVID-19 outpatients to describe self-medication with OTC drugs and use of other remedies against symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection. We specifically considered their type and frequency, as well as associations with patient characteristics, and reasons for use. Data were collected between May 1, 2020 and February 22, 2021 with two questionnaires in an observational cohort study with PCR-confirmed SARS-CoV-2-positive adult outpatients in the district of Western Pomerania in Germany.

"Eco-friendly HPLC method for analysis of dipyrone and hyoscine in different matrices with biomonitoring".

Sci Rep

September 2024

Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kasr El Aini, Cairo University, Cairo, 11562, Egypt.

A selective, precise, and accurate reversed HPLC method has been developed and validated for simultaneous separation and determination of two veterinary drugs, dipyrone and hyoscine, in their combined dosage form in the presence of their official impurities, namely 4-aminoantipyrine and tropic acid, in addition to the formulated preservative: phenol. The linearity range was found to be (1.00-35.
