The chemiosmotic theory is normally attributed to Peter Mitchell's formulation published in Nature in 1961. However, the essential elements of the theory were published 9 years earlier by Davies and Krebs. Why, then, was this earlier formulation overlooked? The success of Mitchell's theory is examined in comparison with those of Davies and Krebs and of Williams.

To address this question and define cardiac biochemical pathology in early-stage HCM, we studied two HCM mouse models that express pathogenic variants in cardiac troponin T () or myosin heavy chain () genes, and have marked differences in cardiac imaging phenotype, mitochondrial function at early disease stage.

The large multi-subunit mitochondrial alpha-keto glutarate dehydrogenase (KGDH) complex plays a key, rate-determining, role in the tricarboxylic acid (Krebs) cycle, catalyzing the conversion of alpha-keto glutarate to succinyl-CoA. This complex is both a source and target of oxidants, but the sites of modification and association with structural changes and activity loss are poorly understood. We report here oxidative modifications induced by Rose Bengal (RB) in the presence of O, a source of singlet oxygen (O).
