In this review paper, three pieces of clinical information in childhood are presented: (1) IGFBP-3 may replace GH provocation tests in the diagnosis of GH deficiency (GHD); (2) IGFBP-3 levels are regulated by IGF-I levels in a short period, and (3) ratio of free IGF-I to total IGF-I is high in serum of early infancy, similarly to serum of pregnancy, only partially owing to the presence of IGFBP-3 proteolytic activity. Each paper will be published soon.

Introduction: Proven risk factors for thyroid orbitopathy (TO) are thyroid dysfunction, smoking, and high levels of thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TRAb), and the role of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), the receptor for IGF-1 (IGF-1R), and antibodies to the receptor for IGF-1 (IGF-1RAb) are also debated. IGF-1R is overexpressed in fibroblasts and orbital lymphocytes in TO patients. It forms a functional complex and mediates signal transduction through thyroid stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR).

Exploring the Plasma Proteome: Identifying Hub Proteins linking Aging, Homeostasis, and Organ Function.

Int J Med Sci

March 2025

The Key Laboratory of Geriatrics, Beijing Institute of Geriatrics, Institute of Geriatric Medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing Hospital/National Center of Gerontology of National Health Commission, Beijing 100730, P.R. China.

As effectors of interactions between genes and the environment, plasma proteins can monitor homeostasis and reflect the aging state of an organism. However, biomarkers of aging that are associated with homeostasis are still unclear. This study investigates the phenotype-related plasma proteome profiles of healthy individuals and to identify proteins that are specifically related to aging and physiological indices and their expression patterns across the lifespan.

The mechanism of high mobility group box-1 in the proliferation and macrophage polarization in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cells.

Eur J Med Res

February 2025

Department of Radiation Oncology, Guangdong Provincial People'S Hospital (Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences), Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, 510000, China.

Background: Previous studies showed that high mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) facilitates the initiation and progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and the current research investigated the detailed mechanisms implicated.

Methods: The impact of HMGB1 and IGFBP3 levels on the survival of ESCC was examined by plotting Kaplan-Meier (KM) curves based on the data collected from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was performed to detect the expressions of HMGB1 in both human esophageal epithelial cells (HEEC) and ESCC cells.

Efficacy of Naringenin against aging and degeneration of nucleus pulposus cells through IGFBP3 inhibition.

The Key Laboratory of Spine and Spinal Cord Disease of Jiangxi Province, Nanchang, 330006, China.

Naringenin (NAR), a natural flavonoid, exerts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant pharmacology. However, the pharmacological mechanisms through which NAR prevents and treats intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) remain unclear. We utilized bioinformatics, machine learning, and network pharmacology to identify shared targets among NAR, senescence, and IDD.
