Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of a combination of immediate implant placement with maxillary sinus augmentation (MSA) solely using platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on guided bone regeneration.

Materials And Methods: An interventional before-after (pre-post) study design was used with 30 dental patients (≥18 years of age; 14 males and 16 females) with initial bone heights ranging between 4 and 6 mm. Following the general check-up and the creation of a study model, the planned implant location demonstrated an external right maxilla diameter of more than 5 mm, thereby validating the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) radiograph.

Purpose Of The Study: Temporary hemiepiphyseodesis using figure-eight plates is currently one of the main surgical techniques to correct axial deformities of lower limbs in paediatric patients. Comprehensive analysis, correct indication and monitoring of treatment are the basic prerequisites for successful therapy. The aim of the study was to analyse parameters that could become an alternative to standard parameters used nowadays, namely the inserted screw angle (SA), and a new parameter - condylar ratio (CR).

Odontoid synchondrosis fractures are rare pediatric spinal injuries that pose significant diagnostic and treatment challenges. These fractures, typically occurring in the C-2 vertebra, often result from high-energy trauma and are difficult to diagnose due to subtle radiographic findings. We present the case of a 4-year-old male who sustained a head injury while playing on a trampoline.

Background: Thymic mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MECs) are extremely rare malignant neoplasms. We describe a rare case of a MEC with a high histological grade in a patient who survived for more than 20 years after the initial surgery, focusing on the clinical course and recurrence pattern.

Case Presentation: A woman underwent surgical resection of a high-grade thymic MEC at another hospital 21 years ago.

Prevalence of vertebral fractures and associated factors in thai diabetic postmenopausal women.

Sci Rep

September 2024

Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, Khon Kaen, 40002, Thailand.

Article Synopsis
  • T2DM patients face a higher mortality rate due to vertebral fractures compared to non-diabetic patients, but the data on this issue among Asian populations is inconsistent.
  • The study recruited 435 postmenopausal Thai women (145 with T2DM and 290 without) to compare the prevalence of vertebral fractures, osteoporosis, bone mineral density (BMD), and the FRAX score between both groups.
  • Findings indicated that while T2DM patients had higher BMI and BMD at certain sites, they also had a greater prevalence of vertebral fractures, especially involving multiple vertebrae, while no significant differences were found in the FRAX scores between the two groups.
