Spermatogenesis starts with the onset of puberty within the seminiferous epithelium of the testes. It is a complex process under intricate control of the endocrine system. Physiological regulations by steroid hormones in general and by estrogens in particular are due to their chemical nature prone to be disrupted by exogenous factors acting as endocrine disruptors (EDs).

Article Synopsis
  • Firsocostat is a liver-targeted drug being tested for treating metabolic dysfunction-related liver issues, and this study examines its potential drug-drug interactions (DDIs).
  • In the research, 80 healthy participants tested firsocostat alone or with other medications to see how it interacts with drugs that either affect or are affected by liver enzymes.
  • Results showed firsocostat's levels increased significantly with certain inhibitors but had no impact on other medications, suggesting it can be used safely with some drugs without adjustments but not with strong specific inhibitors like rifampin and cyclosporine A.

The presence and fate of pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) in agricultural fields are rarely investigated. The present study highlights that root-derived low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) affect the mobility of PhACs in cultivated humic Arenosol. Sorption experiments are conducted using three PhACs characterised by different physicochemical properties: carbamazepine (CBZ), 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2), and diclofenac-sodium (DFC).

Increasingly, retinal pathologies are being treated with virus-mediated gene therapies. To be able to target viral transgene expression specifically to the pathological regions of the retina with light, we established an in vivo photoactivated gene expression paradigm for retinal tissue. Based on the inducible Cre/lox system, we discovered that ethinylestradiol is a suitable alternative to Tamoxifen as ethinylestradiol is more amenable to modification with photosensitive protecting compounds, i.
