Anaphylactic shock is a severe, potentially life-threatening systemic allergic reaction. It can involve multiple organ systems and is triggered by medication, food, or insect stings. Epidemiological data vary due to differing definitions, but studies estimate that 0,26% of hospital admissions are due to anaphylaxis, with 1-3 deaths per million annually.

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. The DNA methyltransferase DNMT3a has been implicated in COPD, however its upstream regulation and downstream mechanisms remain unclear.
Methods: Relative mRNA and protein levels of indicated genes in lung tissues and dendritic cells (DCs) were tested via qRT-PCR and western blot, respectively.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infects pulmonary alveolar macrophages and induces inflammation in the respiratory system. In swine farms, coinfection with PRRSV and bacterial pathogens is common and can result in clinically complicated outcomes, including porcine respiratory disease complex. Coinfection can cause excessive expressions of proinflammatory mediators and may lead to cytokine-storm-like syndrome.

Lactoferrin (Lf) is a multifunctional iron-binding glycoprotein, involved in a wide range of bioactivities, including immunomodulatory and antiviral activities. Lf in human milk and bovine Lf added to infant formula may provide some protection against viral infections. However, functions of Lfs from different sources may differ due to varying manufacturing processes and posttranslational modifications.

The RNA-binding protein human antigen R (HuR) has been shown to reduce cardiac remodeling following both myocardial infarction and cardiac pressure overload, but the full extent of the HuR-dependent mechanisms within cells of the myocardium has yet to be elucidated. Wild-type mice were subjected to 30 min of cardiac ischemia (via LAD occlusion) and treated with a novel small molecule inhibitor of HuR at the time of reperfusion, followed by direct in vivo assessment of cardiac structure and function. Direct assessment of HuR-dependent mechanisms was done in vitro using neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVMs) and bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs).
