Crosslinked thermosets are highly durable materials, but overcoming their petrochemical origins and inability to be recycled poses a grand challenge. Many strategies to access crosslinked polymers that are bioderived or degradable-by-design have been proposed, but they require several resource-intensive synthesis and purification steps and are not yet feasible alternatives to conventional consumer materials. Here we present a modular, one-pot synthesis of degradable thermosets from the commercially available, biosourced monomer 2,3-dihydrofuran (DHF).

Constructed wetlands (CWs) with low carbon properties represented an effective approach for treating low-polluted water and improving water quality. Here, a research scheme was proposed to achieve maximum operation benefits of the large-scale CWs through parameter identification, operation simulation, evaluation, and analysis of the water quality process. Based on the two-dimensional water hydrodynamic model coupling with the Eco-Lab water quality module (with nutrients), simulation for Bagong hybrid CWs was successfully conducted.

Solar-driven desalination technology is currently an important way to obtain freshwater resources. Significantly, porous materials are used as substrate materials of interface solar evaporator, and their specific impact of water transport property and thermal management during evaporation is worth exploring. In this paper, poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) sponges were prepared by a chemical foaming method, adjusted the PVA polymerization degree, and formaldehyde-hydroxyl ratio to regulate the pore size, and polypyrrole (PPy) was grown in situ on the surface skeleton of PVA sponge to construct a new interfacial solar evaporator (PPy/PVA) with different pore structures.

Measuring XNA polymerase fidelity in a hydrogel particle format.

Nucleic Acids Res

Growth in the development of engineered polymerases for synthetic biology has led to renewed interest in assays that can measure the fidelity of polymerases that are capable of synthesizing artificial genetic polymers (XNAs). Conventional approaches require purifying the XNA intermediate of a replication cycle (DNA → XNA → DNA) by denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, which is a slow, costly, and inefficient process that requires a large-scale transcription reaction and careful extraction of the XNA strand from the gel slice. In an effort to streamline the assay, we developed a purification-free approach in which the XNA transcription and reverse transcription steps occur inside the matrix of a hydrogel-coated magnetic particle.

The use of eggshells as a primary source for developing value-added materials has garnered significant attention in recent years due to their effectiveness as an excellent adsorbent and support. In this study, the Solid-State Dispersion (SSD) method was utilized to prepare composite photocatalysts of eggshells (ES)/TiO₂ in various ratios. TiO₂ and eggshell photocatalysts were also employed as control samples.
