Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a heterodimeric glycoprotein containing varied amount of sialic acid. This is a reason of numerous LH isoforms called also isohormones. The hormone isoforms were separated usually by gel electrophoresis, isoelectrofocusing or chromatofocusing. They differ in biological and immunological activity. Human and some animals LH isoforms were reviewed. Also some genetic mutants of LH are described. Problems of the human isoforms for pathology and diagnostics are presented.

Background: The Gα family plays a crucial role in the complex reproductive regulatory network of teleosts. However, the characterization and function of Gα family members, especially Gαq, remain poorly understood in teleosts. To analyze the characterization, expression, and function of grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) Gαq, we identified the Gα family members in grass carp genome, and analyzed the expression, distribution, and signal transduction of Gαq/gnaq.

Somatostatin (SST) plays diverse physiological roles in vertebrates, particularly in regulating growth hormone secretion from the pituitary. While the function of SST as a neuromodulator has been studied extensively, its role in fish and mammalian reproduction remains poorly understood. To address this gap, we investigated the involvement of the somatostatin system in the regulation of growth and reproductive hormones in tilapia.

Around 48 million couples and 186 million people worldwide have infertility; of these, approximately 85% have an identifiable cause, the most common being ovulatory dysfunctions, male infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome, and tubule disease. The remaining 15% have infertility for unknown reasons, including lifestyle and environmental factors. The regulation of the hypothalamic- pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) is crucial for the secretion of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which are essential for female reproductive functions.

Phoenixin is a neuropeptide with a well-established role in the central regulation of reproductive processes; however, knowledge regarding its role in the ovary is limited. One of the main active phoenixin isoforms is phoenixin-14, which acts through G protein-coupled receptor 173. Our research hypothesis was that phoenixin-14 is expressed in porcine corpus luteum and exerts luteotropic action by affecting the endocrine function of luteal cells through G protein-coupled receptor 173 and protein kinase signaling.

This study investigated the interplay between transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β1/T1 and TGF-β3/T3), and sex hormone receptors using our 3D in vitro cornea stroma model. Primary human corneal fibroblasts (HCFs) from healthy donors were plated in transwells at 10 cells/well and cultured for four weeks. HCFs were supplemented with stable vitamin C (VitC) and stimulated with T1 or T3.
