Regulation of myocardial contraction as revealed by intracellular Ca measurements using aequorin.

J Physiol Sci

January 2025

Department of Cell Physiology, The Jikei University School of Medicine, 3-25-8 Nishi-Shimbashi, Minato-Ku, 105-8461, Tokyo, Japan.

Of the ions involved in myocardial function, Ca is the most important. Ca is crucial to the process that allows myocardium to repeatedly contract and relax in a well-organized fashion; it is the process called excitation-contraction coupling. In order, therefore, for accurate comprehension of the physiology of the heart, it is fundamentally important to understand the detailed mechanism by which the intracellular Ca concentration is regulated to elicit excitation-contraction coupling.

Systolic blood pressure response during exercise testing in symptomatic severe aortic stenosis.

Open Heart

January 2025

Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, and Department of Health, Medicine and Caring Sciences, Linköping University, Linköping, Sweden.

Aims: Exercise testing remains underused in patients with aortic stenosis (AS), partly due to concerns about an exercise-induced drop in systolic blood pressure (SBP). We aimed to study the SBP response to exercise in patients with severe symptomatic AS prior to surgery and 1 year postoperatively.

Methods: Patients scheduled for aortic valve replacement due to severe symptomatic AS were enrolled at a single centre in a prospective observational cohort study.

Background: The relationship between diastolic function parameters and the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) is controversial. This study aimed to determine the relationship between left ventricular diastolic function and the severity of CAD.

Methods: This cross-sectional study included 63 patients with Ischemic heart disease (IHD) or those suspected of having IHD, who underwent angiography.

Macrophages play a crucial role in the immune response during allograft rejection in organ transplantation. Therefore, our study aimed to explore the genomic features of macrophages in mouse heart transplants and use single-cell RNA sequencing to investigate Galectin-9 (Gal-9, Lgals9), a lectin that can mediate the activation and differentiation of immune cells through ligand-receptor interactions, and the effects of its regulation in transplantation. We discovered a new subset of macrophages called "Myoz2+ macrophages", which specifically expressed genes related to myocardial contraction.

Introduction: Cardiac computerized tomographic angiography (CCTA) is perceived as a non-invasive tool for assessment of coronary vessel anatomy. Feature tracking echocardiography has recently emerged as a tool for assessment of regional and global left ventricular function. We aimed to explore the applicability of echocardiographic strain on CCTA cine clips and assess whether global and regional strain parameters are associated with the extent of coronary stenosis.
