Relapsing acute encephalopathy: a complication of diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis immunization in a young boy.

Published: February 1996

Unlabelled: Neurological complications of immunizations are rare. We report the case of relapsing acute encephalitis in a boy after two subsequent diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis vaccinations. First the clinical signs were those of acute disseminated encephalitis. During the second episode, the boy experienced optic neuritis. Recovery was complete after both events. Because of the close temporal relationship of both these demyelinating episodes with the immunizations, we favour a cause and effect relationship.

Conclusion: The observation of a 7-year-old boy who developed relapsing acute encephalitis after two diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis vaccinations and a similar case in the literature suggests that this neurological manifestation may occur as a very rare complication of diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis vaccination.

Inotuzumab ozogamicin (InO) is approved for treatment of relapsed/refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia (R/R ALL). Previous studies reported higher rates of post- hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS) in patients receiving InO versus chemotherapy prior to HSCT. It is unknown if a lower InO dose would reduce risk of post-HSCT SOS or if it would impact efficacy.

Background: Ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) frequently occur in the acute phase of myocarditis. Possible arrhythmic recurrences and the risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in this setting are reasons for concern, and limited data have been published to guide clinical management of these patients. The aim of the present paper is to report the incidence of major arrhythmic events, defined as sustained VA, SCD and appropriate implantable cardiac-defibrillator (ICD) treatment, in patients with acute myocarditis and ventricular arrhythmic phenotype.

Infectious intracranial aneurysms (IIAs) are rare lesions with fragile arterial walls located within the aneurysms, carrying a high risk of rupture. Standard management often involves antibiotic therapy and parent artery occlusion; however, the latter carries a significant risk of cerebral infarction. This report presents a case of an unruptured IIA following cerebral infarction, successfully treated with coil embolization while preserving the parent artery.

Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, No. 37 Guoxue Alley, Chengdu, 610041, China.

Background: Anti-signal recognition particle immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy (anti-SRP IMNM) is a rare autoimmune disorder characterized by muscle weakness and necrosis. Identifying clinical subgroups within this patient population could facilitate the management of the disease.

Objectives: To identify distinct clinical subgroups of anti-SRP IMNM patients.

Methodological advancements now allow older adults with AML to receive allografts although conflicting data exist regarding relative outcomes across age groups and benefits of different conditioning intensities. We retrospectively analyzed 495 adults aged 60-64 (n = 184), 65-69 (n = 189), or ≥70 (n = 122) allografted for AML in remission at our institution from 2006 to 2023. There were no significant differences in relapse or relapse-free survival (RFS) among the 3 age cohorts after multivariable adjustment.
