Background: Combined simultaneous occlusion of the central retinal artery and central retinal vein occurs very rarely and has been observed in patients with systemic disorders such as leukaemia.

Case Report: We report a case of a young man who suffered a combined retinal vascular occlusion with occlusion of the posterior ciliary arteries following blunt trauma to the face with massive haematoma of the lids. To our knowledge, this is the first time that such a sequence of events has been recorded.

Macular degeneration (MD), which affects the central visual field including the fovea, has a profound impact on acuity and oculomotor control. We used a motion extrapolation task to investigate the contribution of various factors that potentially impact motion estimation, including the transient disappearance of the target into the scotoma, increased position uncertainty associated with eccentric target positions, and increased oculomotor noise due to the use of a non-foveal locus for fixation and for eye movements. Observers performed a perceptual baseball task where they judged whether the target would intersect or miss a rectangular region (the plate).

Vascular Healing After Biodegradable Polymer Sirolimus-Eluting Versus Durable Polymer Everolimus-Eluting Stents in Chronic Total Occlusions.

Catheter Cardiovasc Interv

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Frigid Zone Cardiovascular Diseases, Cardiovascular Research Institute and Department of Cardiology, General Hospital of Northern Theater Command, Shenyang, China.

Background: Biodegradable polymer stents may reduce the risk of neoatherosclerosis and stent thrombosis. Limited data is available for biodegradable polymer sirolimus-eluting stent (BP-SES) and durable polymer drug-eluting stents (DP-EES) in chronic total occlusions (CTO).

Aim: This study was to evaluate healing patterns of BP-SES versus DP-EES in CTO at 3 and 13 months based on optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Sustained activation of the SIRT3-NLRP3 inflammasome has been associated with worse outcomes after ischemic stroke. The objective of this study was to examine the potential mechanism by which the SIRT3-NLRP3 inflammasome affects neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPCs) after transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO) in rats. Following tMCAO, significantly elevated levels of NLRP3, ASC, cleaved caspase 1, IL-1β, and IL-18 were observed in the ischemic subventricular zone.

Ventricular arrhythmias induced by ischemia/reperfusion injury limits the therapeutic effect of early reperfusion therapy for acute myocardial infarction. This study investigated the protective effects of the β2-adrenergic receptor (β2-AR) agonist clenbuterol against ischemia/reperfusion-induced arrhythmias and the underlying mechanism. Anesthetized rats were subjected to 10-min left coronary artery occlusion and 10-min reperfusion in vivo.

Purpose: Central retinal artery occlusion, also known as an eye stroke, results in visual impairment and functional challenges. Our study objectives were to identify meaningful measures and factors that indicate or enable successful recovery after eye stroke and to determine optimal processes to support research, including exploring barriers and facilitators to successful research participation.

Methods: We used qualitative methods including the 5Ts Framework (target population identification, team composition, time considerations, tips to accommodate older adults, tools for inclusive enrollment of older adults) to provide a guide to the development of the semi-structured interviews and to help facilitate the research process such as the set-up of interviews.
