The authors describe a case of impossible intubation by classical means in an obese 37-yr old woman, affected with encephalopathy, hydrocephalus and severe psychomotor retardation. After failure of intubation by classical methods using a flexible introducer, the patient was intubated by Waters retrograde technique using an epidural catheter passed through the thyrocricoid membrane and recovered in the mouth. Following this guide the endotracheal tube passed the glottis fairly easily with the help of a flexible "mouse tail-ended" introducer (C-Mettro, Cook, 19.0.80) inserted into the same tube to facilitate alignment of distal tube and trachea. The authors conclude that the combination of epidural catheter and flexible introducer may facilitate the retrograde technique performance; they consider this technique to be an interesting alternative when endotracheal intubation is difficult or impossible by usual methods.

The objective of the present study was to optimize an enzymatic starch extraction process from cassava roots using a polyglacturonase (PGase) from a wild yeast strain (Wickerhanomyces anomalus). The supernatant of W. anomalus culture, with PGase activity, was used as source of enzyme (enzymatic extract, EE).

Both fresh and processed Chinese chestnuts are susceptible to retrograde hardening, affecting their texture, flavor, and shelf life because of their high starch content. To reduce the short-term retrogradation of chestnut starch during the food processing of chestnut-based products, a complex of Lonicern caerulea berry polyphenols (LCBP) and chestnut starch (CS) was prepared using high hydraulic pressure (HHP). The results showed that LCBP reduced the water separation rate, hardness, elasticity, and short-range order of retrograde CS under HHP and improved light transmission.

Isolation of adult mouse cardiomyocytes is an essential technique for advancing our understanding of cardiac physiology and pathology, and for developing therapeutic strategies to improve cardiac health. Traditionally, cardiomyocytes are isolated from adult mouse hearts using the Langendorff perfusion method in which the heart is excised, cannulated, and retrogradely perfused through the aorta. While this method is highly effective for isolating cardiomyocytes, it requires specialized equipment and technical expertise.
