Pepsin serves as a potential biomarker for laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD). The reported methods for detecting pepsin still have limitations, such as long reaction times and low sensitivity. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a rapid, simple and sensitive detection method.

Hesperidin exhibits promising potential as a feed additive for augmenting gastric acid secretion in animals. Gastrointestinal function is essential for animal growth and the efficient digestion of dietary nutrients, with gastric acid secretion serving as one of its critical components. The secretion of gastric acid, together with other digestive fluids and substances, significantly influences the digestion and absorption of animal feed, which in turn affects growth performance.

Basis for the diversity and extent in loss of digestible nutrients created by dietary phytin: Emphasis on fowl and swine.

AB Vista, Woodstock Court, Blenheim Road, Marlborough, Wiltshire, SN8 4AN, UK.

Phytin is the Ca-Mg-K salt of phytic acid that is created and deposited in the aleurone layer and/or germ of grains and legumes. Its high presence in feedstuffs for fowl and swine diets results in it being a universal and significant impediment to optimum performance. Phytin impairs gastrointestinal recovery of a wide array of nutrients, the effect varying with the nutrient concerned.

Airway pepsinogen A4 identifies lung transplant recipients with microaspiration and predicts chronic lung allograft dysfunction.

Toronto Lung Transplant Program, Ajmera Transplant Centre, University Health Network, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Division of Respirology, Department of Medicine, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Electronic address:

Background: Aspiration is a known risk factor for adverse outcomes post-lung transplantation. Airway bile acids are the gold-standard biomarker of aspiration; however, they are released into the duodenum and likely reflect concurrent gastrointestinal dysmotility. Previous studies investigating total airway pepsin have found conflicting results on its relationship with adverse outcomes post-lung transplantation.

Generation and characterization of nanobodies targeting human pepsinogens.

Protein Expr Purif

April 2024

Bioland Laboratory (Guangzhou Regenerative Medicine and Health Guangdong Laboratory), 510005, Guangzhou, China.

Human pepsinogens (mainly pepsinogen I and pepsinogen II) are the major inactive precursor forms of the digestive enzyme pepsin which play a crucial role in protein digestion. The levels and ratios of human pepsinogens have demonstrated potential as diagnostic biomarkers for gastrointestinal diseases, particularly gastric cancer. Nanobodies are promising tools for the treatment and diagnosis of diseases, owing to their unique recognition properties.
