A personal view of pharmacology.

This essay is an account of the author's experience in trying to interpret the action of drugs as seen in in vitro bioassays. The central theme is how the development of simple mathematical models has assisted in the interpretation of drug actions. Starting from encounters with partial agonists, the essay describes the development of an operational model of agonist activity, the significance of receptor distribution, the analysis of indirect competitive antagonism and various two-receptor systems, followed by examples of pharmacological resultant activity. Analyses of tissue and species variations are described. The essay ends with an assessment of the future of bioassay in pharmacology.

MMFW-UAV dataset: multi-sensor and multi-view fixed-wing UAV dataset for air-to-air vision tasks.

We present an air-to-air multi-sensor and multi-view fixed-wing UAV dataset, MMFW-UAV, in this work. MMFW-UAV contains a total of 147,417 fixed-wing UAVs images captured by multiple types of sensors (zoom, wide-angle, and thermal imaging sensors), displaying the flight status of fixed-wing UAVs of different sizes, appearances, structures, and stabilized flight velocities from multiple aerial perspectives (top-down, horizontal, and bottom-up views), aiming to cover the full-range of perspectives with multi-modal image data. Quality control processes of semi-automatic annotation, manual check, and secondary refinement are performed on each image.

Functional ageing, related to but distinct from biological and environmental systems, is defined as the changes in physical, psychological, cognitive, and social functioning, as well as behavioural factors of individuals as they age. In this Personal View, we propose that a complex systems perspective to functional ageing can show how outcomes such as quality of life and longevity, and success in prevention and treatment, emerge from dynamic interactions among these domains, rather than from single causes. We support this view in three ways.

Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) aims to annotate unlabeled target domain samples using transferable knowledge learned from the labeled source domain. Optimal transport (OT) is a widely adopted probability metric in transfer learning for quantifying domain discrepancy. However, many existing OT-based UDA methods usually employ an entropic regularization term to solve the OT optimization problem, inevitably resulting in a biased estimation of domain discrepancy.
