Boriranes, highly strained three-membered cyclic organoboron heterocycles, have emerged as potential synthons for the synthesis of many organoboron species. However, the synthesis of boriranes with tricoordinate, sp-hybridised boron and tetracoordinate, sp-hybridised carbon atoms is very challenging owing to their high Lewis acidity. Herein we describe the isolation of base-free triaminoboriranes from the room-temperature reaction of diaminoalkynes with an aminodistannylborane.

We report the synthesis of dianionic OCO-supported NHC and MIC complexes of molybdenum and tungsten with the general formula (OCO)MO (OCO = bis-phenolate benzimidazolylidene M = Mo (1-Mo), bis-phenolate triazolylidene M = Mo (2-Mo), M = W (2-W) and bis-phenolate imidazolylidene, M = Mo (3-Mo), W (3-W)). These complexes are tested in the catalytic deoxygenation of nitroarenes using pinacol as a sacrificial oxygen atom acceptor/reducing agent to examine the influence of the carbene and the metal centre in this transformation. The results show that the molybdenum-based triazolylidene complex 2-Mo is by far the most active catalyst, and TOFs of up to 270 h are observed, while the tungsten analogues are basically inactive.

As a result of the current high throughput of the fast fashion collections and the concomitant decrease in product lifetime, we are facing enormous amounts of textile waste. Since textiles are often a blend of multiple fibers (predominantly cotton and polyester) and contain various different components, proper waste management and recycling are challenging. Here, we describe a high-yield process for the sequential chemical recycling of cotton and polyester from mixed waste textiles.

Illicit drugs are often made in less-than-sterile environments and can be stored in ways which can be detrimental to any DNA present, such as whether they are exposed to UV radiation. Previously, analysis of how exposure to UV impacted DNA for forensic applications has been in controlled laboratory conditions isolating a single component of UV radiation and often on DNA-rich samples such as bloodstains or saliva. To evaluate DNA persistence in more realistic conditions, capsules, such as those used to distribute controlled substances, were manually made and then packed into ziplock bags.

Post-harvest losses and rapid fruit ripening at room temperature are major challenges in preserving fruit quality. This study aimed to reduce such losses by applying a red carotenoid pigment, bacterioruberin extracted from an sp. The carotenoid was characterized as bacterioruberin and its derivative tetra anhydrous bacterioruberin (λmax 490 nm), and an / value of 675 and 742 (M+ 1H).
