Perftoran Inhibits Hypoxia-Associated Resistance in Lung Cancer Cells to Carboplatin.

Front Pharmacol

March 2022

Radiological Sciences Department, College of Applied Medical Sciences, Taif University, Taif, Saudi Arabia.

Perftoran (perfluorodecalin) is an oxygen carrier, and carboplatin is a common chemotherapy drug used worldwide for lung cancer treatment. Hypoxia is one of the factors that induce resistance of lung cancer cells to carboplatin. This study explored the role of Perftoran, as an oxygen carrier, in lowering the resistance of lung cancer cells to carboplatin through suppression of hypoxia pathway mediators.

Indocyanine green (ICG) is a nontoxic registered photosensitizer used as a diagnostic tool and for photodynamic therapy (PDT). Hypoxia is one the main factors affecting PDT efficacy. Perfluorodecalin emulsion (Perftoran) is a known oxygen carrier This study investigated the effect of Perftoran on ICG/PDT efficacy in presence and absence of Perftoran evaluation of phototoxicity by MTT; hypoxia estimation by pimonidazole, HIF-1/ by ELISA, and 17 miRNAs (tumor suppressors, oncomiRs, and hypoxamiRs) were analyzed by qPCR.

Multinuclear MRI Research.

Appl Magn Reson

July 2021

Faculty of Physics, M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia.

The presented data clearly demonstrate that multinuclear MRI has a great potential in research and clinical fields. The biomedical value of many heavy nuclei that are part of drugs, contrast agents, and molecular complexes in live tissues emphasizes the need for creating and using MRI scanners tuned to the Larmor frequencies of such nuclei. This article discusses a number of specific problems solved with the use of multinuclear MRI.

Background: Perfluorocarbon emulsions (PFCs) are intravenous artificial oxygen carriers with enhanced gas solubility. As lipid micelle nanoparticle emulsions, PFCs may have a class effect that causes degrees of thrombocytopenia. Understanding the extent of the platelet effects, including mechanism and potential inflammation after PFC infusion, is important for safe human trials.

Perftoran (Vidaphor)-Introduction to Western Medicine.

Shock

October 2019

Department of Anesthesiology, Baylor Scott and White Healthcare, Scott and White Memorial Hospital, Temple, Texas.

Perftoran, which has been rebranded as Vidaphor for marketing in North America, is an emulsion of perfluorocarbons in a surfactant and electrolyte mixture. It was developed in Russia as an oxygen-carrying intravenous plasma additive for hemorrhagic anemia and ischemic conditions from various etiologies. It was approved for clinical use in Russia in 1996 and used by the Russian Armed Forces and in civilian medical care.
