Organisms have the capacity to detect day-night fluctuations through oscillators regulated by circadian clock genes, which are crucial for regulating various biological processes. Numerous studies have demonstrated a marked association between these genes and various growth traits of sheep. This study identified polymorphisms at 23 potential loci within five clock genes in four Chinese sheep breeds.

Identification and characterization of ClAPRR2, a key candidate gene controlling watermelon stripe color.

Plant Sci

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Biology and Genetic Improvement of Horticulture Crops (Northeast Region), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, College of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Northeast Agricultural University, Harbin 150030, China; College of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Northeast Agricultural University, Harbin 150030, China. Electronic address:

The stripe color of watermelon is a vital commercial trait and is the focus of attention of consumers and researchers. However, the genetic determinants of watermelon stripe color are incompletely understood. Based on the results of preliminary localization studies, we constructed a large-capacity F generation population (710 plants) using light-green striped ZXG1555 and green-striped Cream of Saskatchewan (COS) watermelon strains as parental lines for fine mapping.

In this study, we characterize a novel lncRNA-producing gene locus that we name Syntenic Cardiovascular Conserved Region-Associated lncRNA-6 (scar-6) and functionally validate its role in coagulation and cardiovascular function. A 12-bp deletion of the scar-6 locus in zebrafish (scar-6) results in cranial hemorrhage and vascular permeability. Overexpression, knockdown and rescue with the scar-6 lncRNA modulates hemostasis in zebrafish.

Novel allelic variations in and contribute to tannin absence in sorghum.

Mol Breed

March 2024

National Key Laboratory of Wheat Improvement, College of Life Sciences, Shandong Agricultural University, Tai'an, 271018 China.

Unlabelled: Sorghum is an important food crop commonly used for brewing, feed, and bioenergy. Certain genotypes of sorghum contain high concentrations of condensed tannins in seeds, which are beneficial, such as protecting grains from herbivore bird pests, but also impair grain quality and digestibility. Previously, we identified and , each with three recessive causal alleles, regulate tannin absence in sorghum.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on evaluating two TALE-based methods for editing the mitochondrial genome of potato: mitoTALEN (using FokI nuclease) and mitoTALECD (using DddA cytidine deaminase).
  • Both methods targeted the same mitochondrial sequence (orf125), resulting in a variety of mutations -- mitoTALEN induced deletions of varying sizes through homologous recombination, while mitoTALECD produced single nucleotide mutations.
  • The findings showed that both editing techniques successfully modified the mitochondrial genome with high efficiency, enabling comparisons of their effectiveness, precision, and stability in subsequent plant generations.
