The experiments on mongrel white rats studied toxicity of the products appearing during thermal destruction of conveyer tape TK-200 based on polyvinyl chloride and used in coal mines. The studies helped to define parameters of acute toxicity and the MACs for products of the conveyer tape burning, considering the main contents and the exposure intensity for 30-120 minutes; to determine jeopardy class; to calculate specific volatilization; to design recommendations for prevention of poisoning during fire in the mines.

This study investigates steam washing (SW) as an innovative pretreatment for municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWI-FA) dechlorination, useful for a more effective stabilization in cementitious matrix. By using a detailed analytical approach (XRPD, XRF, ICP-MS, IRMS, SEM) and geochemical modeling, great focus is dedicated on pollutant leaching reduction and changes in ash physicochemical characteristics as a function of exposure time. The research demonstrates that SW removes up to 70 % cadmium, 17 % zinc, and 10 % lead, primarily by dissolving the soluble and carbonate/hydroxide fractions and promoting the reprecipitation and adsorption of heavy metals into more stable compounds.

Detecting Multipartite Entanglement Patterns Using Single-Particle Green's Functions.

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

Brookhaven National Laboratory, Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science Division, Upton, New York 11973, USA.

We present a protocol for detecting multipartite entanglement in itinerant many-body electronic systems using single-particle Green's functions. To achieve this, we first establish a connection between the quantum Fisher information and single-particle Green's functions by constructing a set of witness operators built out of single electron creation and destruction operators in a doubled system. This set of witness operators is indexed by a momentum k.

To mitigate the exhaustion of hydrocarbon fuels and the rise of pollutants, one can use biofuels in diesel engines for power generation. This study examines the possibility of enhancing the performance and reducing the pollutions of a compressed ignition engine using methyl ester made from cotton silk seed oil. This study aimed to assess the energy, energy efficiency, and emissions (3E) of the Kirloskar engine operating at 1800 rpm.

Dioxins rank among the most hazardous persistent organic pollutants, presenting a serious threat due to their long environmental lifespan and capacity for bioaccumulation. This comprehensive review delves into the historical, chemical, and toxicological aspects of dioxins, spotlighting significant incidents such as the Seveso disaster and the repercussions of Agent Orange. The review offers a thorough analysis of the sources of dioxin formation, encompassing natural occurrences like volcanic eruptions and wildfires, alongside man-made activities such as industrial combustion and waste incineration.

Assessment of potential ecological risk by metals in Ilha Grande Bay (Southeast Brazil).

Mar Pollut Bull

January 2025

Universidade de Aveiro, GeoBioTec, Departamento de Geociências, Campus de Santiago, 3810-193 Aveiro, Portugal. Electronic address:

This study evaluates contamination and potential ecological risk in Ilha Grande Bay (BIG) in southeastern Brazil. To achieve these objectives, we analyzed physicochemical, sediment textural, and geochemical data from 134 stations distributed throughout the bay. The results reveal significant environmental degradation in the coastal areas of Paraty, Saco do Mamanguá, Angra dos Reis City, and Abraão Cove (at Ilha Grande island).
