Early events in G-quadruplex folding captured by time-resolved small-angle X-ray scattering.

Nucleic Acids Res

January 2025

Department of Medicine, UofL Health Brown Cancer Center, University of Louisville, Louisville KY, 505 S Hancock St, Louisville, KY 40202, United States.

Time-resolved small-angle X-ray experiments are reported here that capture and quantify a previously unknown rapid collapse of the unfolded oligonucleotide as an early step in the folding of hybrid 1 and hybrid 2 telomeric G-quadruplex structures. The rapid collapse, initiated by a pH jump, is characterized by an exponential decrease in the radius of gyration from 24.3 to 12.

Forward genetic screens of mutant populations are fundamental for functional genomics studies. However, isolating independent mutant alleles to molecularly identify causal genes is challenging in species recalcitrant to genetic manipulation. Here, we demonstrate that classic seed EMS mutagenesis coupled with genome sequencing can overcome this limitation in sorghum.

Evolutionary dynamics of the B chromosomes in the fish species Valenciennes, 1837 of the Paraná River Basin.

Comp Cytogenet

January 2025

Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), Avenida Edmundo Carrijo Coube, Bauru, SP, Brazil Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) Bauru Brazil.

The fish species has an interesting B chromosome system, with three morphological types as acrocentric, metacentric, and submetacentric. However, most cytogenetic studies on this species are restricted to the natural population of the Mogi Guaçu River. Given this, the present work aimed to study the structure karyotypic profile as well as the occurrence of supernumeraries in in several localities in the Paraná River basin, where this species is abundant.

Background: is a significant cause of healthcare-associated infections, with rising antimicrobial resistance complicating treatment. This study offers a genomic analysis of , focusing on sequence types (STs), global distribution, antibiotic resistance genes, and virulence factors in its chromosomal and plasmid DNA.

Methods: A total of 19,711 genomes were retrieved from GenBank.

Introduction: Meticillin resistant (MRSA) is a major contributor to surgical site infections in post-operative patients. Hospital environments harbor MRSA, contributing to higher risk of nosocomial infections. Meticillin resistance is conferred by acquisition of gene, typically carried on mobile genetic element called Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome (SCC).
