Carbon dots doped with metals and non-metals have gained much popularity due to the enhancement in their optical and electronic properties. In this study, polyethyleneimine-functionalized transition metal (nickel or copper) doped carbon dots (CD, NiCD and CuCD) were synthesized through hydrothermal method. The carbon dots exhibited a blue fluorescence at 470 nm when excited at 350 nm.

Novel and simple spectrophotometric and distance based procedures for thiols (L-cysteine, N-acetylcysteine, and glutathione) determination in biological fluids and pharmaceuticals have been proposed based on their inhibitory action on the oxidation of catechol in the presence of Agaricus bisporus crude extract (ABE). The influence of L-glycine, L-alanine, L-proline, L-methionine, L-cystine, ascorbic acid, uric acid, and bilirubin on the thiol determination has been investigated. Uric acid, bilirubin, L-cystine (oxidized thiol), and L-amino acids do not interfere with the determination.

Marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) of the lung is an indolent B-cell lymphoma. The peripheral blood of most patients with pulmonary MZL contains low or undetectable monoclonal immunoglobulin (M protein) levels. In this case, the clinical laboratory discovered that the pulmonary MZL patient not only associated with high concentration of monoclonal IgG-type protein but also exhibited obvious gel formation characteristics that interfered with clinical biochemistry tests.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cytoprotective effect and the mechanism of cRGD-conjugated bilirubin nanoparticles (cNPs@BR) in dry eye disease (DED).
Methods: The binding capacity and cellular uptake of cNPs@BR in human corneal epithelial cells (HCECs) were assessed by immunofluorescence. The anti-inflammation and anti-oxidative stress effects of cNPs@BR were determined by flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, Western blot, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), and ELISA assay in LPS-stimulated RAW264.

Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia (NH) is a common condition in newborns, with elevated bilirubin levels potentially causing neurological damage or death. Accurate and timely measurements of total serum bilirubin are essential to prevent these outcomes. Direct spectrophotometry, a reliable method for measuring bilirubin, is particularly useful in constrained settings due to its potential for portable low-cost instrumentation.
