(1) Background: Testicular cancer, although accounting for only 0.5% to 1% of all solid male cancers, is the most common malignancy in males aged 15 to 35 years. Non-seminomatous germ cell tumors (NSGCT) represent nearly half of all testicular germ cell tumors and are associated with a more aggressive clinical course.

Background: 95% of men with spinal cord injuries exhibit difficulties with sexual function, including erectile dysfunction, anejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, poor ejaculatory force, and poor sperm quality.

Aim: The primary goal is to determine if well-established interventions, such as spinal cord epidural stimulation, are a feasible treatment for sexual dysfunction and if locomotor recovery training can be used to improve ejaculatory function in a rodent model of spinal cord injury (SCI).

Methods: Male Wistar rats underwent thoracic laminectomies (shams), spinal cord transections, or moderate spinal cord contusion injuries.

Exploring the interplay between inflammation and male fertility.

FEBS J

December 2024

UMIB - Unit for Multidisciplinary Research in Biomedicine, ICBAS - School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto, Portugal.

Male fertility results from a complex interplay of physiological, environmental, and genetic factors. It is conditioned by the properly developed anatomy of the reproductive system, hormonal regulation balance, and the interplay between different cell populations that sustain an appropriate and functional environment in the testes. Unfortunately, the mechanisms sustaining male fertility are not flawless and their perturbation can lead to infertility.

Background: This study reports our seven-year experience of one-year follow-up results after scrotal and testicular trauma, classified according to the Gülhane Grading System (GGS). We provide detailed hormonal analyses, ultrasound (US) evaluations, and spermiogram results. There are no previous studies that focus on all these detailed topics in relation to a grading system.

PTD-FNK Alleviated LPS-Induced Oxidative Stress of Boar Testicular Sertoli Cells via Keap1-Nrf2 Pathway.

Vet Sci

November 2024

College of Animal Science and Technology, Guangxi Key Laboratory of Animal Breeding, Disease Control and Prevention, Guangxi University, Nanning 530004, China.

PTD-FNK, a synthetic anti-apoptotic protein, has been shown to potently alleviate cellular injuries. However, the effects of PTD-FNK on oxidative defense in boar testicular Sertoli cells (SCs) against oxidative injury has not been explored. In this study, we show that exposure of SCs to 100 mg/L lipopolysaccharide (LPS) for 12 h leads to decreased survival rate, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and increased malondialdehyde (MDA).
