Cigarette smoking is strongly linked to serious internal diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and lung disease. However, the external manifestations and consequences of smoking are relatively unknown. Although generally less ominous, the cutaneous manifestations of smoking may be associated with significant morbidity. This article reviews the known adverse effects on the skin of smoking.

Over the past 40 years, the introduction and refinement of hydroxyurea therapy has led to remarkable progress for the care of individuals with sickle cell anemia (SCA). From initial small proof-of-principle studies to multi-center Phase 3 controlled clinical trials and then numerous open-label studies, the consistent benefits of once-daily oral hydroxyurea have been demonstrated across the lifespan. Elevated fetal hemoglobin (HbF) serves as the most important treatment response, as HbF delays sickle hemoglobin polymerization and reduces erythrocyte sickling.

Cutaneous endometriosis is a rare manifestation of endometriosis, and few reports on its dermoscopic features have been published. In this case report, we present a 40-year-old female with cutaneous endometriosis arising in a caesarean scar, exhibiting unique and distinct dermoscopic features. The patient presented with a nodular, papillomatous growth in the right end of the scar, and dermoscopic examination revealed structureless red papillomatous projections, as well as nonpapillomatous areas with red dotted vessels surrounded by a white reticular network.
