Background: ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) demands near-time reperfusion to reduce the risk of long-term heart failure. This study evaluates the proportion of impaired left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) following STEMI in the context of current healthcare settings at a tertiary care center equipped with the most advanced and up-to-date standards of care.

Methods: Patients experiencing STEMI as their first manifestation of coronary artery disease were analyzed, as these individuals had no prior experience with heart-related chest pain.

Chemogenetic Modulation of Preoptic Neurons Decreases Body Temperature and Heart Rate.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

The Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen-Hong Kong Institute of Brain Science-Shenzhen Fundamental Research Institutions, Shenzhen 518055, China.

The preoptic area of the hypothalamus is critical for regulation of brain-body interaction, including circuits that control vital signs such as body temperature and heart rate. The preoptic area contains approximately 70 molecularly distinct cell types. The gene is expressed in a subset of preoptic area cell types.

Earthquakes, as significant natural disasters, still cannot be accurately predicted today. Although current earthquake early warning systems can provide alerts several seconds in advance, acute stress responses (ASR) in emergency situations can waste these precious escape seconds. To investigate the correlation between personality and ASR, this study collected the temperament and character of all participants using the Chen Huichang-60 Temperament Scale and the DISC Personality Inventory.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses the use of transit-time flow measurement (TTFM) during coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) as a modern and efficient method for evaluating graft flow.* -
  • Key measurable parameters such as mean graft flow, pulsatility index, diastolic filling, and systolic reverse flow are assessed to predict the success of CABG grafts, although cut-off values vary based on hemodynamic conditions.* -
  • The review highlights the importance of fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis of TTFM waveforms, suggesting that waveform morphology may provide additional insights into graft quality beyond standard flow measurements.*

This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between autonomic nervous function (ANF) and cognitive abilities, such as memory and attention, using the Kana pick-out test (KPT). The participants were 11 female college students aged 21 years old. Each participant completed the KPT ten times, during which their ANF was assessed via heart rate variability analysis.
