Aminoglycosides are concentration-dependent antibiotics exerting a bactericidal effect when concentrations at the site of infection are equal to or greater than 5 times the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC). When administered intravenously, they exhibit poor lung penetration and high systemic renal and ototoxicity, imposing to restrict their administration to 5 days. Experimental studies conducted in anesthetized and mechanically ventilated sheep and pigs provide evidence that high doses of nebulized aminoglycosides induce a rapid and potent bacterial killing in the infected lung parenchyma.

Background: A partial atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD) with a hypoplastic left ventricle and common atrium is a rare combination of cardiac anomalies that can be associated with Ellis-van Creveld (EVC) syndrome.

Case Summary: A female neonate with EVC syndrome was diagnosed with an unbalanced AVSD and hypoplastic left ventricle. Pulmonary artery banding and ductus ligation were performed at 23 days after birth.

Abnormal autophagy regulation is implicated in lupus and other autoimmune diseases. We investigated autophagy in the murine pristane-induced lupus model. Pristane causes monocyte/macrophage-mediated endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in lung endothelial cells and diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) indistinguishable from DAH in lupus patients.

Division of Thoracic Tumor Multimodality Treatment, Department of Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiology, Huaxi MR Research Center (HMRRC), Institution of Radiology and Medical Imaging, Cancer Center, Breast Center, Institute of Breast Health Medicine, Laboratory of Clinical Cell Therapy, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, 610041, China.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has a strikingly high incidence rate globally. Although immunotherapy brings a great breakthrough in its clinical treatment of NSCLC, significant challenges still need to be overcome. The development of novel multi-functional nanomedicines in the realm of tumor immunotherapy offers promising opportunities for NSCLC patients, as nanomedicines exhibit significant advantages, including specific targeting of tumor cells, improved drug bioavailability, reduced systemic toxicity, and overcoming of immune resistance.

Clinical Characteristics During and After COVID-19 Infection Among Healthcare Workers During the First Wave of Omicron in Chongqing, China.

Immun Inflamm Dis

January 2025

Department of Infectious Diseases, Key Laboratory of Molecular Biology for Infectious Diseases (Ministry of Education), Institute for Viral Hepatitis, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China.

Background: Revealing the clinical manifestations and associations of COVID-19 before and after negative transition remains an area of significant uncertainty. The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical characteristics observed during and after Omicron infection among a specific population, namely healthcare workers (HCWs).

Methods: From November 4, 2022, to January 15, 2023, HCWs in our hospital were enrolled to document clinical symptoms, prevention, and treatment for COVID-19 using a structured questionnaire.
