We have characterized genomic structure and transcription of a murine odorant receptor (OR) gene, MOR23. This gene has two distinct transcriptional initiation regions, which are differentially utilized in the olfactory and testicular cells. We have found that the MOR23 gene has an intron within the 5'-untranslated region upstream of the coding sequence. In olfactory cells, transcription of the gene is initiated in the region upstream of this intron, while in testicular cells, transcription starts within the intron. Differential initiation of transcription is discussed in the context of tissue-specific expression of the OR genes.

Objective: To observe the effects of the "Zhibian" (BL54)-toward-"Shuidao" (ST28) acupuncture on key regulatory factors during mitochondrial apoptosis of testicular tissue in asthenozoospermia mice, and explore the potential mechanism of the protective effect of acupuncture on reproductive function.
Methods: Thirty C57BL/6 male mice were randomly divided into a blank group, a model group and an acupuncture group, 10 mice in each group. In the model and the acupuncture groups, the intraperitoneal injection of cyclophosphamide (30 mg•kg•d) was delivered for 7 days to prepare the asthenozoospermia model.

Compromised male reproductive health, including reduced testosterone and sperm count, is one of the long COVID symptoms in individuals recovering from mild-severe disease. COVID-19 patients display testicular injury in the acute stage and altered serum fertility markers in the recovery phase, however, long-term implications on the testis remain unknown. This study characterized the consequences of SARS-CoV-2 on testis function.

Although the impact of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) on spermatogenesis in trans women has already been studied, data on its precise effects on the testicular environment is poor. Therefore, this study aimed to characterize, through histological and transcriptomic analysis, the spermatogonial stem cell niche of 106 trans women who underwent standardized GAHT, comprising estrogens and cyproterone acetate. A partial dedifferentiation of Sertoli cells was observed, marked by the co-expression of androgen receptor and anti-Müllerian hormone which mirrors the situation in peripubertal boys.

Background: Karyotype 46, XY female disorders of sex development (46, XY female DSD) are congenital conditions due to irregular gonadal development or androgen synthesis or function issues. Genes significantly influence DSD; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study identified a Chinese family with 46, XY female DSD due to the CUL4B gene.

Background/objectives: Climate change-induced temperature elevations pose significant challenges to livestock reproduction, particularly affecting testicular function in small ruminants. This study investigates the acute heat-stress response in goat Sertoli cells (SCs), aiming to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying heat-induced damage to male reproductive tissues.
Methods: SCs were isolated from testes of 4-month-old black goats and exposed to heat stress (44 °C for 2.
