Background/objectives: Dietary protein intake can potentially influence renal function. This study aimed to elucidate the association between dietary protein supplementation and a decrease in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in Japanese stroke patients undergoing rehabilitation.
Methods: From July 2017 to June 2021, 60 patients undergoing post-stroke rehabilitation were randomly assigned to a rehabilitation alone or rehabilitation nutrition group, which received 120 g Reha-Time Jelly after each session.

Pressure ulcers (PUs) are caused by continuous pressure or friction on the skin that damages tissue, especially over bony prominences. A critical factor in the development and progression of PUs is poor nutritional status, which often involves deficiencies in essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamins (A, C, D, E, K, and the B complex), and trace elements (including zinc, selenium, copper, iron, and manganese). These micronutrients are vital for effective wound healing, as they play significant roles in cellular repair, immune function, and tissue regeneration.

Kinetic stability is thought to be an attribute of proteins that require a long lifetime, such as the transporter of thyroxine and holo retinol-binding protein or transthyretin (TTR) functioning in the bloodstream, cerebrospinal fluid, and vitreous humor. TTR evolved from ancestral enzymes known as TTR-related proteins (TRPs). Here, we develop a rate-expansion approach that allows unfolding rates to be measured directly at low denaturant concentration, revealing that kinetic stability exists in the TRP (EcTRP), even though the enzyme structure is more energetically frustrated and has a more mutation-sensitive folding mechanism than human TTR.

Background & Aims: Serum retinol (ROH) is commonly used for population level assessment of vitamin A status. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is considered most accurate method for measuring ROH. However, with the technical difficulty of using HPLC for routine assays, serum retinol-binding protein (RBP) measured by immunological assays is expected to be a surrogate marker for ROH, with reports of a close correlation between serum RBP and ROH.

Objective: This study aimed to construct a predictive model for assessing the risk of development of neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE) among patients with SLE based on clinical, laboratory, and meteorological data.
Methods: A total of 2232 SLE patients were included and were randomly assigned into training and validation sets. Variables such as clinical and laboratory data and local meteorological data were screened by univariate and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistic regression modelling.
