Nearly 7000 Arabidopsis thaliana-expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from 10 cDNA libraries have been sequenced, of which almost 5000 non-redundant tags have been submitted to the EMBL data bank. The quality of the cDNA libraries used is analysed. Similarity searches in international protein data banks have allowed the detection of significant similarities to a wide range of proteins from many organisms. Alignment with ESTs from the rice systematic sequencing project has allowed the detection of amino acid motifs which are conserved between the two organisms, thus identifying tags to genes encoding highly conserved proteins. These genes are candidates for a common framework in genome mapping projects in different plants.

IKKα is a multifunctional serine/threonine kinase that controls various biological processes, either dependent on or independent of its kinase activity. However, the importance of the kinase function of IKKα in human physiology remains unknown since no biallelic variants disrupting its kinase activity have been reported. In this study, we present a homozygous germline missense variant in the kinase domain of IKKα, which is present in three children from two Turkish families.

Celiac disease (CD) is a common autoimmune disorder in which the patients are unable to digest gluten, which is present in foods made up of wheat, barley and rye. Whilst diagnosis happens late in 80% of the cases, avoidance of such foods appears to be the common solution. Alternative management strategies are required for the patients and their families since CD is also genetically carried over.

More than 100 grapevine varieties are registered as suitable for wine production in "Douro" and "Trás-os-Montes" Protected Designations of Origin regions; however, only a few are actually used for winemaking. The identification of varieties cultivated in past times can be an important step to take advantage of all the potential of these regions grape biodiversity. The conservation of the vanishing genetic resources boosts greater product diversification, and it can be considered strategic in the valorisation of these wine regions.

As a medicine safety issue, Drug-Drug Interaction (DDI) may become an unexpected threat for causing Adverse Drug Events (ADEs). There is a growing demand for computational methods to efficiently and effectively analyse large-scale data to detect signals of Adverse Drug-drug Interactions (ADDIs). In this paper, we aim to detect high-quality signals of ADDIs which are non-spurious and non-redundant.

Amphibian genomes are usually challenging to assemble due to their large genome size and high repeat content. The Limnodynastidae is a family of frogs native to Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea. As an anuran lineage that successfully diversified on the Australian continent, it represents an important lineage in the amphibian tree of life but lacks reference genomes.
