Background: Because of the limited availability of autologous tissue, stored allograft is commonly used. Before grafting, bank tissue is subjected to chemical preservation procedures. This procedure is important to diminish antigenicity and to inactivate possible inherent viruses. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of different chemical preservation procedures like Cialit, Merthiolate, and formaldehyde on the presence of HIV DNA.
Methods: HIV-infected tissues were obtained from eight HIV-positive patients and examined using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
Results: After chemical treatment, we could observe the presence of HIV DNA in all examined tissues.
Conclusions: The findings indicate the importance of the mandatory serological screening and selection in donor patients.

Li-rich cation-disordered rocksalt (DRX) materials introduce new paradigms in the design of high-capacity Li-ion battery cathode materials. However, DRX materials show strikingly sluggish kinetics due to random Li percolation with poor rate performance. Here, we demonstrate that Li stuffing into the tetrahedral sites of the Mn-based rocksalt skeleton injects a novel tetrahedron-octahedron-tetrahedron diffusion path, which acts as a low-energy-barrier hub to facilitate high-speed Li transport.

Ecosystems such as wetlands have karst groundwater as their primary source of preserving their services and functions. Karst systems are complex hydrogeological systems that are difficult to study because of their complicated functioning mechanism, which requires an interdisciplinary effort based on hydrodynamic assessment and characterization of the hydrogeology of the system. The study area is the Ramsar wetland Ciénaga de Tamasopo (Mexico), which is dependent on the discharge of karst groundwater that is affected by water extraction of extensive sugarcane agriculture and is also the main water source for the rural towns.

There has been widespread adoption of exogenously sourced particulate bone graft materials (BGM) for bone regenerative procedures; however, the particulate nature of these materials may lead to compromised healing outcomes, mainly attributed to structural collapse of the BGM, prolonged tissue healing.
