A zoo-based, 11-year-old, uniparous southern black rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis minor) failed to conceive after weaning a calf. Behavioral observation and fecal progestagen monitoring confirmed irregular estrous cycles. Serial transrectal reproductive ultrasound examination revealed the cause to be recurrent anovulatory hemorrhagic follicles (AHFs).

Article Synopsis
  • Monitoring gestation and predicting foaling dates in mares, especially in pasture-bred bucking horses, is complicated due to unknown breeding dates.
  • A study developed a breed-specific scale that correlates fetal vitreous body length measured via transrectal ultrasonography with days before parturition (DBP) for bucking horses.
  • The resulting curvilinear equation accurately predicts DBP based on fetal eye measurements, highlighting that previously used equations for small ponies do not apply accurately to bucking horse pregnancies.

Our objective was to improve ovulatory response at the initiation of the Resynch-25 protocol by (1) increasing the dose of GnRH from 100 µg to 200 µg; and (2) giving a second GnRH treatment 56 h after the initiation of the protocol. We considered the experimental d 0 the day of the previous service. The experiment consisted of a 2 × 2 factorial design to compare the main effects of GnRH dose (100 vs.

Background: Small intestinal obstruction (SIO) is a blockage of the intestinal lumen by blunt foreign bodies, neoplasms originating from the intestinal wall or thick chyme. This study analysed the medical records (only data) of 110 cattle with SIO and described the clinical findings, treatment and outcome. These findings were compared between surviving and non-surviving cattle, and among the affected regions such as the duodenum, jejunum and ileum.

Ultrasound assessment of the pelvic sidewall: methodological consensus opinion.

A standardized methodology for the ultrasound evaluation of the pelvic sidewall has not been proposed to date. Herein, a collaborative group of gynecologists and gynecological oncologists with extensive ultrasound experience presents a systematic methodology for the ultrasonographic evaluation of structures within the pelvic sidewall. Five categories of anatomical structures are described (muscles, vessels, lymph nodes, nerves and ureters).
