An analysis of 125 patients with closed head injury was completed in order to identify the risk factors involved in the development of early pneumonia. Pneumonia was diagnosed in 60% of the patients. Early pneumonia developed in 47.8% of the patients. Brain-injured patients who developed early pneumonia were found to have a lower Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score. Early pneumonia was found more often in patients with swallowing disorders and evidence of aspiration. Patients who had been intubated in the field were found to be at greater risk for the development of early pneumonia than those intubated in the hospital. Patients with early pneumonia had prolonged intubation times, intensive care unit stays, and hospital stays. This study suggests that a GCS score less than 5, evidence for swallowing disorders and aspiration, and field intubation are risk factors for early pneumonia in the brain-injured patient.

Objective: Although the efficacy of high-flow nasal oxygen therapy in delaying or avoiding intubation in patients with hypoxemic respiratory failure has been studied, its potential for facilitating early weaning from invasive mechanical ventilation remains unexplored.
Methods: In this randomized controlled trial, 80 adults with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure requiring invasive mechanical ventilation for > 48 hours were enrolled and divided into two groups: conventional weaning and early weaning via high-flow nasal oxygen. In the conventional weaning group, the spontaneous breathing trial was performed after the PaO2/FiO2 ratio was ≥ 200, whereas in the high-flow nasal oxygen group, the spontaneous breathing trial was conducted earlier when the PaO2/FiO2 ratio was 150 - 200.

Introduction: The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which began in early 2020, and the outbreak of war in Ukraine in 2022 (a country bordering Poland on the east) have significantly impacted the mental health of young people in Poland, leading to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. The rising number of individuals struggling to cope with daily stressors, as well as non-normative stressors, may indicate a decrease in the individual's potential, specifically in skills, attitudes, and competencies required to overcome difficulties that they encounter. It can be assumed that for young people, maintaining mental health under the influence of social stressors, such as the pandemic and the ongoing war in Ukraine, depends on the ability to adapt positively, which is the ability of young individuals to adjust to situational demands in a way that allows them to effectively manage those situations.
