Semiparametric estimator for the covariate-specific receiver operating characteristic curve.

Stat Methods Med Res

January 2025

CITMAga and Department of Statistics and Operations Research, Universidade de Vigo, Vigo, Galicia, Spain.

The study of the predictive ability of a marker is mainly based on the accuracy measures provided by the so-called confusion matrix. Besides, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve has become a popular index for summarizing the overall accuracy of a marker. However, the nature of the relationship between the marker and the outcome, and the role that potential confounders play in this relationship could be fundamental in order to extrapolate the observed results.

The Disturbed Microbial Niches of Itchy Scalp.

J Cosmet Dermatol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism, Joint International Research Laboratory of Metabolic and Developmental Sciences, School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

Background: Scalp itch without evident cause is an uncomfortable symptom that annoys many people in life but lacks adequate attention in academic.

Aims: To investigate the relationship between scalp itching and microorganisms, and identify the key microbes and predicted functions associated with scalp itching, furtherly to provide useful targets for scalp itch solution.

Methods: We performed microbial comparison between 44 normal subjects and 89 subjects having scalp itching problem with un-identified origin based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing and ddPCR (digital droplet PCR), and identified itch relevant microbes and predicted functions.

Project-based learning, with its emphasis on 'learning by doing', is the dominant teaching method in industrial design. Learners are supposed to be motivated to tackle complex problems such as those in the dynamic field of sustainability. However, it is still unclear how the process of increasing motivation within projects can be systematically targeted for specific sustainability challenges and directed towards potential later pro-environmental behavior.

Interpreting Lung Cancer Health Disparity between African American Males and European American Males.

Proceedings (IEEE Int Conf Bioinformatics Biomed)

December 2024

Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences, Florida International University, Miami, USA.

Lung cancer remains a predominant cause of cancer-related deaths, with notable disparities in incidence and outcomes across racial and gender groups. This study addresses these disparities by developing a computational framework leveraging explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to identify both patient- and cohort-specific biomarker genes in lung cancer. Specifically, we focus on two lung cancer subtypes, Lung Adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and Lung Squamous Cell Carcinoma (LUSC), examining distinct racial and sex-specific cohorts: African American males (AAMs) and European American males (EAMs).
