The interaction of DNA molecule with some coordination compounds of the divalent platinum: cis-DDP, trans-DDP, [(NH3)4Pt]Cl2 and K2PtCl4 was studied. It was shown that the transition of the cis-DDP, trans-DDP, and [PtCl4]2- to aquo-complexes is necessary for their binding with DNA in solution. It was shown that the labile chloride groups are responsible for the formation of the energetically strong binding. The distance between chloride groups in cis-DDP is optimal for incorporation of two groups of DNA bases into the first coordination sphere of platinum. The complexes are also stabilized with phosphate in the external coordination sphere of platinum. The sterical non-conformity between the DNA structure and positions of chloride groups and the orientation of the amino groups in trans-DDP are the main obstructions for the formation of bidentate DNA-trans-DDP complexes. The existence of more than two vacant positions for binding with DNA in [PtCl4]2- does not stabilise the complex. The compound [(NH3)4Pt]Cl2 cannot produce coordination bonds with DNA, because its first coordination sphere is completed with amino groups; it interacts with DNA, forming principally different complexes.

Cobalt is a trace element, crucial for red blood cell formation and neurological function. Cobalt toxicity is often only diagnosed after severe manifestations, including visual impairment. We aimed to investigate whether optical coherence tomography (OCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can effectively detect cobalt-induced ocular toxicity in a murine model.

Polymeric coatings that combine resistance to adhesion ("defending") and killing ("attacking") of biocontaminants were proposed to endow the surface with nonadhesive and bactericidal capabilities. In contrast, a zwitterionic copolymer P(GMA--DMAPS) with antifouling groups ([2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide, DMAPS) and a zwitterionic/cationic copolymer P(GMA--DMAPS--DMC) with bactericidal groups ([2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethylammonium chloride, DMC) were synthesized, of which the latter exhibited synergistic inhibitory and killing properties. The distinct feed ratios of monomers were conducted, and the optimal molar ratio was obtained.

Annually, the oil and gas industry faces equipment losses and product quality degradation due to the presence of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB). Given the negative impact of SRB, this study evaluates the use of photoinactivation (PI) with zinc chloride double salt of 1,9-Dimethyl-Methylene Blue (DMMB) as a photosensitizer (PS) in varying concentrations and combined with Laser light at different exposures in an SRB consortium. For culture growth, a modified Postgate C medium (without ferrous sulfate) was used, and cell quantification was performed on 100 μL aliquots of the consortium, read on a spectrophotometer (λ600 nm) in an oxygen- and light-free environment at room temperature.
