Article Synopsis
  • Snapping of the triceps occurs when a part of the muscle dislocates during elbow flexion, and surgical resection or redirection is the main way to treat it.
  • A patient with long-term elbow pain and snapping had previous surgeries but continued to experience symptoms; a reoperation revealed bilateral snapping triceps.
  • The novel technique of electrically stimulating the musculocutaneous nerve during surgery can help assess the functionality of the triceps, making it easier to determine the appropriate amount of muscle to be resected or redirected.

Introduction: Ultrasound is useful in assessing patients with snapping syndromes around the elbow joint. The dynamic nature of the examination allows for direct visualisation of the underlying causative factor. We discuss the role of dynamic ultrasound in assessing various snapping syndromes around the elbow, such as ulnar nerve instability, snapping triceps and less commonly, snapping brachialis.
