Population genetic studies were carried out on Caucasians from southern Turkey (n = 204 individuals) using the short tandem repeat (STR) systems HumTHO1, HumVWA and HumACTBP2. After electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels, 6 alleles could be identified for HumTHOI, 7 alleles for VWA and 26 alleles for ACTBP2. No significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium could be observed.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis(ALS) has traditionally been managed as a neuromuscular disorder. However, recent evidence suggests involvement of non-motor domains. This study aims to evaluate the impact of APOE and MAPT genotypes on the cognitive features of ALS.

In this study, we compared gene expression in multiple brain cell types in brain tissue from Alzheimer disease (AD) cases with no or other co-existing pathologies including Lewy body disease (LBD) and vascular disease (VaD).
Method: We evaluated differential gene expression measured from single nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNAseq) data generated from the hippocampus region tissue donated by 11 BU ADRC participants with neuropathologically confirmed AD with or without a co-existing pathology (AD-only = 3, AD+VaD = 6, AD+LBD = 2).

Background: Anti- Aβ monoclonal antibodies are the first FDA-approved treatments for AD that slow cognitive decline and lower Aβ plaques. Our goal is to identify the epitope specificities of antibodies in human blood that are associated with AD and NC and determine the predicted protein targets of these antibodies.
Method: 101 AD (MMSE < 27) and 98 NC (MMSE > 27) serum samples were obtained from the UCI tissue repository.

Background: APOEε4 significantly increases the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD). Cognitively healthy APOEε4-carriers exist, suggesting potential protective mechanisms against APOEε4. We hypothesized that some APOEε4-carriers may have genetic variations protecting them from developing APOEε4-mediated AD pathology.

Background: Chronic stress promotes life-long risk for neuropsychiatric decline by increasing neuroinflammation and disrupting synaptic health and plasticity. Our lab and others have recently demonstrated that non-invasive gamma sensory stimulation (flicker) modulates immune signaling, restores microglial function, and improves cognitive performance in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, no research to date has studied the effects of flicker in the context of stress.
