The present work aimed to develop an accurate analytical method for the simultaneous analysis of twenty-four antimicrobials in soil:compost and animal manure samples by means of ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to a triple-quadrupole mass spectrometer (UHPLC-QqQ). For this purpose, the effectiveness of two extraction techniques (i.e.

The extraction of quinolone antibiotics (QAs) is crucial for the environment and human health. In this work, polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/covalent organic framework TpPa-1 nanofiber was prepared by an electrospinning technique and used as an adsorbent for dispersive solid-phase extraction (dSPE) of five QAs in the honey and pork. The morphology and structure of the adsorbent were characterized, and the extraction and desorption conditions for the targeted analytes were optimized.

An accurate mass database and a method based on ultra high performance liquid chromatography-electrostatic field orbitrap high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Orbitrap HRMS) were developed. These were applied in the screening and identification of illegally added medicines in herbal tea. Based on investigations, 167 medicines were selected to build an accurate MS database; these medicines included antipyretic analgesics, glucocorticoids, antibiotics, and antihistamines, among other categories.

Article Synopsis
  • - A new adsorbent called FMB was created using a simple two-step method involving the co-precipitation of iron and manganese with vinasse waste, followed by pyrolysis to improve its properties.
  • - The effectiveness of FMB in adsorbing fluoroquinolone antibiotics, specifically pefloxacin (PEF) and ciprofloxacin (CIP), was studied under various conditions including pH, temperature, and contact time.
  • - FMB showed strong reusability, retaining about 55% efficiency for PEF and 80% for CIP even after five uses, utilizing several mechanisms like pore filling and hydrogen bonding to capture the antibiotics from water efficiently.

Phenotypic screening for quinolone resistance in Escherichia coli.

Eur J Clin Microbiol Infect Dis

September 2019

Department of Infectious Diseases, Linköping University, Linköping, Sweden.

Recent studies show that rectal colonization with low-level ciprofloxacin-resistant Escherichia coli (ciprofloxacin minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) above the epidemiological cutoff point, but below the clinical breakpoint for resistance), i.e., in the range > 0.
