Specific domains of the NS4 and NS5 gene products of hepatitis C virus have been identified using hydrophilicity profiles for the prediction of potential immunogenic regions, and epitope scanning techniques. Peptides synthesised on the basis of such data show excellent reactivity in the ELISA format. Introduction of a glycine-glycine spacer between two peptides (NS4-12 and NS5-44) to give a single chimeric peptides does not appear to impair immunoreactivity. An ELISA based on the chimeric peptide and a Core-NS3 recombinant protein correctly diagnoses a cohort of haemodialysed patients, three commercial HCV panels and the sera of a negative control population.

Unlabelled: Caliciviruses are significant agricultural and human pathogens that are poorly understood due to the dearth of molecular tools, including reporter systems. We report the development of a stable, faithful, and robust luciferase-based reporter system for a model calicivirus, murine norovirus (MNoV). Genetic insertion of a HiBiT tag, an 11 amino acid fragment of nanolucifersase, at the junction of the nonstructural proteins NS4 and NS5 yields infectious virus.

Introduction: Various dendrimer nanoparticles have properties like multivalency, controlled size, and surface functionality that make them promising nanocarriers for targeted drug delivery and other applications in pharmaceutical sciences. The precise tunability of dendrimers is an advantage over other nanoparticles. The topological descriptors can be used to predict the physicochemical properties of dendrimers and optimize their branching pattern for specific applications.

Dengue virus is a single positive-strand RNA virus that is composed of three structural proteins including capsid, envelope, and precursor membrane while seven non-structural proteins (NS1, NS2A, NS2B, NS3A, NS3B, NS4, and NS5). Dengue is a viral infection caused by the dengue virus (DENV). DENV infections are asymptomatic or produce only mild illness.

In temperate coastal environments, wide fluctuations of biotic and abiotic factors drive microbiome dynamics. To link recurrent ecological patterns with planktonic microbial communities, we analysed a monthly-sampled 3-year time series of 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing data, alongside environmental variables, collected at two stations in the northern Adriatic Sea. Time series multivariate analyses allowed us to identify three stable, mature communities (climaxes), whose recurrence was mainly driven by changes in photoperiod and temperature.
