Background & Aims: Results from case-control studies and laboratory tests indicate that consumption of allium vegetables may considerably reduce the risk of stomach cancer. The association between onion and leek consumption, garlic supplement use, and the incidence of stomach carcinoma was studied.
Methods: The association was investigated in the Netherlands Cohort Study on diet and cancer, which started in 1986 with 120,852 men and women ranging in age from 55 to 69 years. Dietary data were available for 139 stomach carcinoma cases diagnosed during 3.3 years of follow-up and for 3123 subjects of the randomly selected subcohort.
Results: The rate ratio for stomach carcinoma in the highest onion consumption category (> or = 0.5 onions/day) was 0.50 (95% confidence interval, 0.26-0.95) compared with the lowest category (0 onions/day) after adjustment for other risk factors. The reduction in risk was restricted to carcinoma in the noncardia part of the stomach (P = 0.002) and was also found among subjects without a history of stomach disorders (P = 0.01). The consumption of leeks and the use of garlic supplements were not associated with stomach carcinoma risk.
Conclusions: The Netherlands Cohort Study provides evidence for a strong inverse association between onion consumption and stomach carcinoma incidence.

Betel quid contains two major ingredients; Areca catechu and Piper betel, often consumed with slaked lime, tobacco, certain flavouring agents, colouring agents, herbs, and spices according to personal preferences. The areca nut alkaloids (arecoline, arecaidine, guvacine, and guvacoline), and tobacco alkaloids (nicotine, nor-nicotine) undergo nitrosation during chewing in the oral cavity with the presence of nitrite and thiocyanate and endogenously. Among the nitrosation products generated areca nut-derived nitrosamine (ADNA): 3-(methylnitrosamino) Propionitrile (MNPN) and the two tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs); N'-nitrosonornicotine (NNN) and 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone) (NNK) are considered Group 1 human carcinogens.

Objectives: , which is primarily recognized for determining blood types, shows variable expression patterns in different tissues and cancer types. This study investigated the relationship between gene expression and cancer, and assessed its potential impact on patient survival.
Methods: Utilizing the GEPIA database, we analyzed expression in normal and tumor tissues across various cancer types using online tools for comprehensive evaluation.

Annular pancreas is a rare congenital anatomical anomaly, in which the pancreatic parenchyma surrounds the descending duodenum. Generally, annular pancreas is diagnosed on the basis of symptoms associated with complications of peptic ulcer, pancreatitis, cholelithiasis, and rarely, malignant tumors. Herein, we report an 84-year-old man for whom, during hospitalization for a urinary tract infection, pancreatic cystic lesions and an annular pancreas were noted incidentally on computed tomography.

Here, we describe the case of a 74-year-old male patient with a high-risk prostate carcinoma who underwent positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) with [Ga]Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen ([Ga]Ga-PSMA-11) for staging. [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT detected an extensive area of increased tracer uptake at the prostatic level, involving both lobes. Additionally, a rounded lesion approximately 4 cm in diameter was identified in the celiac region adjacent to the stomach, exhibiting moderate tracer uptake.
