High endothelial venule (HEV) is an important component of the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue and plays a role in the homing phenomenon of lymphocytes. We investigated the presence of HEVs in conjunctiva-associated lymphoid tissue (CALT) using guinea pigs sensitized with ovalbumin. Electron microscopy showed characteristic findings for HEVs in the parafollicular area of the CALT. Lymphocytes in the vessels are trapped not only by microprocesses extending from the vascular endothelium but also by the endothelial cells. Some endothelial cells also appear to release lymphocytes. We conclude that HEVs are present also in the CALT.

This study aimed to describe the morphological features and microstructure of the upper, lower, and third eyelids of the black-winged kite, Elanus caeruleus, and to characterize the organized lymphoid follicles and lymphocytes in the eyelid mucosa. Additionally, it aimed to illustrate the importance of the eye adnexa in the eye's immune protection. The upper, lower, and third eyelids display varying morphological differences that seem to be closely linked to the birds' way of life, indicating adjustments to their environment and eating behaviors.

Over the past few decades, the expanded applications of in-vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) have greatly enhanced the knowledge of a variety of conjunctival diseases. IVCM allows non-invasively detailed observation of tarsal, palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, from the superficial to the substantia propria at the cellular level. IVCM has been shown as a powerful tool for the assessment of morphological changes in both physiological and pathological conditions.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate loose suture-related inflammation and activation of conjunctiva-associated lymphoid tissue (CALT) in patients after keratoplasty. The patients who were treated with keratoplasty at the First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University between 2015 and 2022 were recruited into the study. We evaluated the time and location of loose suture development in patients after keratoplasty.
