Published: January 1995

Levels of FSH, LH and E2 were evaluated by means of EIA methods in 62 post-menopausal women qualified for operation treatment. In 46 cases neoplasms of uterus body and in 16 cases neoplasms of uterus cervix and an ovary were stated. Higher level of estradiol and lower levels of gonadotrophins were shown in cases with uterus body neoplasms and opposite, lower estradiol levels and higher gonadotrophins values in cases with cervix and ovarian neoplasms. The outcome suggests possibility of function of hypothalamic-hypophysial-ovarian axis in post-menopausal period. Level of estradiol can be also used as a diagnostic marker to uterus body neoplasms.

Hypothyroidism causes ovarian dysfunction and infertility in women and animals and impairs the hypothalamic expression of kisspeptin (Kp). However, kisspeptin is also expressed in the genital system, and the lack of the Kp receptor (Kiss1r) in the uterus is linked to reduced implantation rates. This study investigated the impact of hypothyroidism on the uterine expression of Kp and Kiss1r in female rats throughout the estrous cycle and the associated changes in uterine activity modulators.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNSTs) are aggressive sarcomas that occur rarely in the cervix. Considering the varied clinical features and the absence of a pathognomonic immunohistochemical marker, it is always challenging to diagnose these tumours. Treatment has not been standardised as yet, but a combination of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy is used to treat MPNSTs of the cervix.
