Effect of glutathione depletion on the conversion of xanthine dehydrogenase to oxidase in rat liver.

Published: June 1993

The ability of endogenous glutathione (GSH) to modify the activity of the enzyme xanthine oxidase (XO) in rat liver was investigated. The effect of hepatic GSH depletion on the conversion of xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) (EC 1.1.1.204) to XO (EC 1.1.3.22) was determined 10 min after i.p. administration of different amounts of diethylmaleate to fasted rats. After administration of 400 mg/kg, total hepatic non-protein GSH (reduced + oxidized GSH) decreased significantly to 14% of controls. In this condition the level of oxidized GSH was unchanged and no lipid peroxidation was observed, while a significant increase of reversible XO and a minor increase of the irreversible form of the enzyme was detected.

The stable operation of high-capacity lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs) has been hampered by slow conversion kinetics of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and instability of the lithium metal anodes. Herein, 6-(dibutylamino)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-thiol (DTD) is introduced as a functional additive for accelerating the kinetics of cathodic conversion and modulating the anode interface. We proposed that a coordination interaction mechanism drives the polysulfide conversion and modulates the Li solvated structure during the binding of the N-active site of DTD to LiPSs and lithium salts.

The nuclear matrix, a proteinaceous gel composed of proteins and RNA, is an important nuclear structure that supports chromatin architecture, but its role in human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) has not been described. Here we show that by disrupting heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein U (HNRNPU) or the nuclear matrix protein, Matrin-3, primed hPSCs adopted features of the naive pluripotent state, including morphology and upregulation of naive-specific marker genes. We demonstrate that HNRNPU depletion leads to increased chromatin accessibility, reduced DNA contacts and increased nuclear size.

The land use transition plays an important role for terrestrial environmental services, which had a mixed impact of positive and negative on the groundwater and terrestrial water resource. The health of ecological systems and groundwater depends on the mapping and management of land use. The Ganga basin is one of the most densely populated and agriculture-intensive river systems in the South Asia and the world.

d-Xylitol is a low-calorie and anti-cariogenic sweetener suitable for diabetic patients, making it a valuable ingredient in various health-related applications. In this study, we investigated the production of d-xylitol from l-arabinose derived from sugar beet press pulp (SBPP) hydrolysate using an engineered strain. Initial batch studies applying stirred tank bioreactors demonstrated d-xylitol production of 4.

In the waste oil recycling industry, large amounts of oil-containing sludge are still generated, thus posing a resource depletion issue when disposed of or incinerated without energy recovery or residual oil utilization. In this work, chemical activation experiments using phosphoric acid (HPO) were performed at a low temperature (600 °C) for 30 min to produce porous carbon products. From the results of the pore property analysis, an increasing trend with an increasing impregnation ratio from 0.
