We explore the use of a statistical model proposed by Kokoska (1987, Biometrics 43, 525-534) for the analysis of animal cancer chemoprevention experiments. We show, using an example, that the results derived from the method can be sensitive to the parametric forms of the distributions that are assumed, particularly to the distribution of the number of tumors per animal. We propose goodness-of-fit tests to aid in the choice of the distributions.

Ischemic stroke is the most common cerebrovascular disease and the leading cause of permanent disability worldwide. Recent studies have shown that stroke development and prognosis are closely related to abnormal tryptophan metabolism. Here, significant downregulation of 3-hydroxy-kynurenamine (3-HKA) in stroke patients and animal models is identified.

Background: The entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana has been widely used for pest biocontrol with conidia serving as the main active agents. Conidial yield and quality are two important characteristics in fungal conidia development, however, the regulatory mechanisms that orchestrate conidial formation and development are not well understood.
Results: In this study, we identified a ZnCys transcription factor BbCDR1 that inhibits conidial production while promoting conidial maturation.

In this study, we investigated age-related changes in clinical laboratory data and their association with mortality in dogs from the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. By analyzing complete blood count (CBC) and biochemistry data from 2'412 Golden Retrievers over 16,678 visits, we observed significant changes during the first 2 years of life and throughout aging. Based on these observations, we developed a biological aging clock using a LASSO model to predict age based on blood markers, achieving an accuracy of R = 0.

Background: Caprine tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium caprae. A tuberculosis control programme has been implemented using the comparative intradermal tuberculin (CIT) test. However, infection with Corynebacterium pseudotuberculsis and infection with or vaccination against Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) may have a negative impact on specificity.
