The microvascular arrangement of the extrahepatic biliary tree of the rat was studied by light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of vascular corrosion casts. The plexus that encircles the lumen of the common bile duct, observed by LM, showed a network of vessels of different diameter situated under the epithelium in the lamina propria. Parallel SEM observations of the same structure demonstrated the presence of 2 main vascular layers: an outer arterial and venous layer, corresponding to the larger vessels seen by LM, and a richer inner capillary layer just under the epithelium. On the luminal part of the corrosion casts, there were many round avascular empty pits that corresponded to the presence of small acinar glands distributed along the epithelium of the common bile duct. The rich subepithelial capillary network present in the rat, an animal without a gallbladder, may play an important role in the reabsorption of water and solutes from bile. Moreover, in pathological conditions (e.g. portal hypertension), liver blood flow may take a preferential collateral route through the intrahepatic peribiliary plexus into the relatively large diameter vessels of the extrahepatic peribiliary plexus because of the continuity of the 2 plexi.

This study aimed to investigate the release of metallic ions from cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloys fabricated by additive manufacturing (AM) for comparison with dental casting. Co-Cr alloys were fabricated via AM using selective laser melting (SLM) and electron beam melting (EBM) in powder-bed fusion. Polished and mechanically ground specimens were prepared.

The ruins of the Imperial City of the Minyue Kingdom were an important site of the Minyue Kingdom during the Han Dynasty. Characteristic bronze arrowheads unearthed from the East Gate, with their exquisite craftsmanship, provide important physical evidence for studying ancient bronze casting technology and the military activities of that time. However, there is still a lack of systematic research on the alloy composition, casting process, and chemical stability of these arrowheads in long-term burial environments.

This article shows the results of research conducted on the corrosion resistance of the FeAl (Fe40Al5Cr0.2TiB) alloy in two variants: the alloy after casting and after homogenization annealing (1000 °C, 93 h). Analysis of the microstructure of these alloys was conducted on the light microscope, and the phase composition was determined by X-ray diffraction.

Portal hypertension (PH) can cause severe complications in patients with advanced chronic liver disease (aCLD). The pan-peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (pan-PPAR) agonist lanifibranor reduces portal pressure in preclinical models of aCLD. Since the effect on PH might be secondary to fibrosis improvement, we investigated the effect of lanifibranor on PH, hepatic and splanchnic angiogenesis in mouse models of fibrotic and prehepatic non-fibrotic PH.

The chemical corrosion of the TC4 radiation rod surface (TRRS) during the ultrasonic casting process has the potential to significantly impair the smooth conduction of ultrasonic waves. However, in the later stages of corrosion, a self-protected structure (TSPS) emerges under the ultrasonic cavitation effect, which serves to impede the chemical corrosion of the TRRS and markedly reduce the rate of mass loss of the radiation rod. This ensures the smooth ultrasonic conduction of the radiation rod during operation.
