Background: Amebiasis represents a significant global health concern. This is especially evident in developing countries, where infections are more common. The primary diagnostic method in laboratories involves the microscopy of stool samples.

Background: To develop and test the performance of a fully automated system for classifying renal tumor subtypes via deep machine learning for automated segmentation and classification.

Materials And Methods: The model was developed using computed tomography (CT) images of pathologically proven renal tumors collected from a prospective cohort at a medical center between March 2016 and December 2020. A total of 561 renal tumors were included: 233 clear cell renal cell carcinomas (RCCs), 82 papillary RCCs, 74 chromophobe RCCs, and 172 angiomyolipomas.

MemScreen: A smartphone application for detection of mild cognitive impairment: A validation study: Smartphone App for MCI Detection.

Université Paris Cité, INSERM U1153, Centre of Research in Epidemiology and Statistics, Team Epidemiology of Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases, 10 avenue de Verdun, 75010 Paris, France; Faculty of Brain Sciences, University College London, 38-50 Bidborough Street, WC1H 9BT London, UK.

Background And Objectives: Primary care is often the first point of contact for patients with cognitive complaints, making initial cognitive screening an essential step to avoid delays in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD) at an early stage. We developed MemScreen, a self-administered smartphone application that assesses overall cognition and verbal memory, and evaluated its ability to detect mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in both general and clinical populations.

Methods: We conducted two validation cohort studies: (1) UK-based Whitehall II cohort study (13th wave, 2018-2022) involving a general population (MCI defined by poor performance on a global cognitive score), and (2) five French memory clinics involving patients without dementia (amnestic MCI defined by the Free and Cued Selective Reminding Test).

Non-atherosclerotic coronary causes of myocardial infarction in women.

Prog Cardiovasc Dis

January 2025

Section of Interventional Cardiology, MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC, United States. Electronic address:

Ischemic heart disease is the most common cardiovascular cause of death in women worldwide. Obstructive coronary atherosclerosis is the primary cause of myocardial infarction (MI), however, non-atherosclerotic mechanisms of MI, such as spontaneous coronary artery dissection, vasospasm, microvascular dysfunction, embolization, inflammation, coronary anomalies, infectious and infiltrative causes are increasingly being recognized. Emerging data suggest that women are two to five times more likely to have an MI in the absence of coronary atherosclerosis compared to men, but they continue to remain underdiagnosed and undertreated, partly due to underdiagnosis and limited understanding of these mechanisms.

Isothermal, enzyme-free amplification techniques, such as the hybridization chain reaction (HCR) and catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA), have gained significant attention for mRNA analysis. Despite their potential, these methods still face challenges, including false positives and low amplification efficiency. To overcome these limitations, we have developed a confined catalytic hairpin assembly and hybridization chain reaction (CHA-HCR) system that utilizes cholesterol-modified hairpin probes to enhance the sensitivity and specificity of mRNA detection.
